“Carefully Consider”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

We traveled throughout Cuba in November and December 2012 and stayed here for two days. During our two weeks in Cuba we only stayed in Casas, so we became very familiar with them.

The good: location, really nice house, great deck overlooking the street, the food was good (a shot of rum with dinner and ice cream for dessert!), we had the upper floor to ourselves, and the bathroom was excellent (it is so nice to have a big bathroom).

The bad: we never felt really comfortable here, which is very important if you are staying in someone's home and embedded with their family! It seemed at times like we were not wanted and that the hostess (not the husband, he was great) was only having us to make extra money. In fact, at one point she got upset, we were not sure what happened (we are very nice people).

To sum up: excellent accommodations but not a good vibe. Maybe the hostess was going through some personal or a family issue but given that there are Casas EVERYWHERE I would consider staying somewhere else and we were relieved to leave.

This was a real treat. Having travelled round Cuba for 2 weeks it was lovely to be somewhere different - modern and white and very comfortable. The bed was terrific! Norka was really lovely and helpful, and the casa is really close to the main old square so a great location. Really wish we'd had dinner here!

I stayed 3 days in Casa Azul In the historic centre of Santiago de Cuba.
This excellent casa was very bright and clean.
Big bedroom and a nice big bathroom with shower and bath.
Lots of privacy and a balcony
Breakfast and diner where served in their beautiful patio with lots of
tropical plants.
Norka and Paco are charming, hospitable and kind people.
They speak good English, know a lot about their town and provide you
with practical information.
They are good cooks, so I really enjoyed their a la carte cooking. Much better then the restaraunts in de surrounding.
Their neighbours looked after my rental car
When I had a problem with my health they even accompanied me to the hospital.
Overall a great experience which I would gladly recommend to anyone.
On my next visit to Cuba I will definitely stay with them again.

I stayed two times, unforgettable hospitality!!
Mistress of the house is very refined because of her talent of an architect.
She is so kind, so if you are woman, travel alone, don't worry about it.

Especially her food is so nice, much better than any restaurant in Santiago de Cuba. I hope want to come back here as soon as possible.

This casa offered nice open spaces, clean rooms and a beautiful patio. The owner was really lovely and her food to die for! We enjoyed a variety of delicious dishes. The food was always served in the open patio so it gave a nice feeling to the whole experience. I also found Paco (the lovely parakeet) hypnotizing and relaxing to watch. The patio had rocking chairs so you could relax and in the second floor there was a table that gave you also the privacy to read your book or work on your computer while looking at the street. I highly recommend it, since after travelling through Cuba for 17 days, this particular house had all the comforts you could wish for.

If someone asked me, which was the best casa during our trip to Cuba, I would definitely say CASA AZUL.
The house was built in a Cuban contemporary style that makes you say wowwww! The owner and architect of the house is an amazing person. She was so interesting and everyday decorated the table with this beautiful cuban art dishes that fascinated us to a point of going to the ARTEX store to buy cuban art printed on cups and shower curtains. The bed was made everyday and the bathroom cleaned as well, this was nice since not all the casas did this. In addition, the bathroom and the mattress was up to european standards. In contrast to other casas where normally you can hear the rooster and the music from the neighbors, the bedroom's high quality glass windows, in addition to the metal shutters and A/C made it possible to sound proof the room without suffocating. Moreover, the room and bathroom had 220V and 110V sockets to recharge your devices that, after a while of running around was really nice to find something like this in Cuba. The house was only one block from the Parque Cespedes so our car was only necessary if we needed to go to outside the city. Breakfast and dinner were superb! We fell in love with the frijoles, malanga and you name it!!! We are going back for sure!
