We spent one week at the hotel, from March 13 to the 20, and we had a great experience. The people were very friendly and made us feel welcome as if part of the family. The chefs and the bartenders had a great sense of humor and there was not a moment we spent with them in which we were not laughing and having a good time. The service was good for a 3 star hotel, we also made friends with the cleaning lady and the gardeners. In short, all the staff at the hotel were so friendly that it was almost impossible not to befriend them.
The nightly shows were very entertaining and funny. Not to mention that the dancers were Very good looking and charismatic. Other activities available included karaoke nights, dance lessons (I highly recommend these as they teach you the basic steps to Salsa, Bachata, Reggaeton, and Mambo), bingo and other board games, aqua fit, pool, volleyball, plus there were bikes and motorcycles available for visiting the nearby places.
There were also many water activities to keep you busy such as snorkling, a trip on the catamaran, canoeing, pedal boats, etc.
For many tourists, if they like to go out dancing at night there are a few places they can go to. I visited them all, but my favorite place was Mar Verde, which plays mostly Latin music and is frequented by many Cubans as well as foreigners. There is also Rumbo, an outdoor club playing both Latin and English music. Thirdly, there is an indoor club called La Jungla ("The Jungle") at the Hotel next to Caracol. This place has a more North American style and costs more than the others.
The food was very good, although not very varied througout the week; however, it does have enough variety to be able to eat something different everyday. The chefs were very fun and always made good conversation. We also went out into town and had a huge lobster for dinner one night, which was delicious but too big to finish. There is also a beach bar that runs from 10 am till 5 pm, and serves drinks from the bar and fast food (fries, hamburgers, hot-dogs).
I must say that even though most of the staff speak English, if you plan on visiting places outside of the resorts, it is a great advantage to speak Spanish for you are able to talk with locals.
The weather was perfect all week, except we did not expect the nights (after 11 pm) to be so chilly. So even though it's Cuba, remember to bring a sweater!
Massages were available for only 10 for half an hour, done by David, which I recommend as they are very relaxing. There are a few souvenir shops inside and outside of the hotels. If you want to have a great time there, I recommend participating in all the events and activities that take place throughout the day.
One last tip: bring more clothes than you think might be necessary for a one-week stay because you will have to change more often that you think for different occassions.
