My husband and I, both retired seniors, have just returned from 3 weeks in Cuba. As we are not the type of tourists who like all-inclusive resorts, we booked La casa de Ana on-line, having read the rave reviews. While we had planned only 3 or 4 days in Havana, we were so pleased with La Casa de Ana y Pepe that we extended our stay to 6 days at the start of the trip and another 2 days at the end. Pepe met us, just as promised, at the airport and, on our arrival at the house, our reaction was "Wow!" The house is extremely clean and airy, with lots of areas where one can sit and relax after a long day of touring. Our room (one of two) had the added bonus of a small refrigerator, well stocked with cold drinks. Hot water was plentiful (although we preferred to cool down with cold showers!) and Ana and Pepe went out of their way to accomodate us. Pepe is a fountain of knowlege when it comes to Cuban history and culture, and provided us with a personalized city tour, taking us to sights we no doubt would never have found on our own. Both Ana and Pepe were dedicated to providing us with the best possible authentically Cuban experience. The meals - breakfasts and suppers - were excellent, unlike the resort areas where (we are told) the food can be very bland and tasteless. We were introduced to their family (Jose, Alina and little Sabina) and staff (Anjela, Yoniel and their daughter Melisa), which made us feel like we were being adopted - and helping us forget how much we missed our own grandchildren! When we were ready to leave Havana, Pepe helped us plan our itinerary, and called ahead to reserve casas in all the cities we would be visiting - including one in Baracoa owned by his cousin Tony - which became our second favorite casa! So, Ana y Pepe, you have become like family to us, and we sincerely hope to return to Cuba in the future. Until then, we wish you the best of everything - good health, many friends, loving family and much happiness.
