My husband and I, both retired seniors, have just returned from 3 weeks in Cuba. As we are not the type of tourists who like all-inclusive resorts, we booked La casa de Ana on-line, having read the rave reviews. While we had planned only 3 or 4 days in Havana, we were so pleased with La Casa de Ana y Pepe that we extended our stay to 6 days at the start of the trip and another 2 days at the end. Pepe met us, just as promised, at the airport and, on our arrival at the house, our reaction was "Wow!" The house is extremely clean and airy, with lots of areas where one can sit and relax after a long day of touring. Our room (one of two) had the added bonus of a small refrigerator, well stocked with cold drinks. Hot water was plentiful (although we preferred to cool down with cold showers!) and Ana and Pepe went out of their way to accomodate us. Pepe is a fountain of knowlege when it comes to Cuban history and culture, and provided us with a personalized city tour, taking us to sights we no doubt would never have found on our own. Both Ana and Pepe were dedicated to providing us with the best possible authentically Cuban experience. The meals - breakfasts and suppers - were excellent, unlike the resort areas where (we are told) the food can be very bland and tasteless. We were introduced to their family (Jose, Alina and little Sabina) and staff (Anjela, Yoniel and their daughter Melisa), which made us feel like we were being adopted - and helping us forget how much we missed our own grandchildren! When we were ready to leave Havana, Pepe helped us plan our itinerary, and called ahead to reserve casas in all the cities we would be visiting - including one in Baracoa owned by his cousin Tony - which became our second favorite casa! So, Ana y Pepe, you have become like family to us, and we sincerely hope to return to Cuba in the future. Until then, we wish you the best of everything - good health, many friends, loving family and much happiness.

We were advised before travelling to Cuba to arrange to stay at a casa as this was the best way to see Cuban life at first hand. La Casa de Ana is a fantastic place to do just this and we stayed for 9 days. Ana and Pepe are a wonderful couple, warm, welcoming and gloriously happy. We were greeted with open arms on arrival and made to feel at home immediately. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The breakfasts are excellent, a very generous helping of at least five different kinds of fresh fruit followed by ham and eggs, plenty of fruit juice and coffee.....perfect. Apart from the proverbial travel guide to Cuba our knowledge of the country was minimal so we were more than happy to take up Pepe's offer of a guided tour of Old Havana the day after we arrived. This was a wonderful and captivating insight to the city and it's people and we were more than impressed with Pepe's historical knowledge. Mind you he has another skill and that is he mixes a first class mojito cocktail and what better time to sample his talent than at the end of the day sitting on Ana & Pepe's verandah watching the sun go down.

Although La Cas de Ana is located in Vedado the wonderful residential area of Havana it is only a short taxi ride away from central Havana. There are many places of interest within walking distance...the Hotel Nacional, John Lennon Park, the Malecon etc.

When we left at the end of our stay it was like saying 'Goodbye' to a new family and it goes without saying that when we visit Cuba again we will be visiting La Casa de Ana again.

Anna and Pepe are fantastic hosts. We extended our stay by 2 more days. Delicious large breakfasts, comfortable beds. Not walking distance to downtown but a cheap taxi ride there. Highly recommended. South Australia

I booked a stay at La Casa de Ana based on the reviews I read on this website. When the dates for our trip changed they did not have any rooms available but Ana found us a casa particular around the corner with Marilu that was great. Pepe picked us up at the airport with a taxi and escorted us to the casa we would be staying in. Ana and Pepe helped us plan our time in Cuba. We arrived on the national day of dance and Pepe called and got us tickets in the third row center for the show that featured all types of dance (traditional, ballet) He also took us on a tour of Old Havana. Everyday my girlfriend and I would go and have coffee with them and talk about what we did the day before and what we planed to do that day. The guests that were staying in the casa were all very friendly and would sit down and talk with us about their plans also. I would highly recommend La Casa de Ana to anyone going to Havana.

La Casa de Ana is a well above average casa particular (B&B) in the Vedado district of Habana. Vedado is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful areas of the city due to its massive variety of architecture, from lovely crumbling colonial houses to the modern functional apartment blocks of the 60s, made delightful by the assortment of washing dangling from makeshift lines out of the window. The people seem friendlier than other areas and there are considerably less Jineteros (hustlers) than in the other districts of Central and Vieja.

When i arrived in Cuba, very late at the airport, Pepe was waiting for me with a sign and they had arranged transport back to their casa which was of the usual price. Half an hour later i was sat in a rocking chair in their entrance porch with another guest sipping a beer. My room was spotlessly clean, included air conditioning, a private toilet and shower (both of better quality than i encountered elsewhere) and even a fridge so i could help myself to drinks whenever. It was all priced very reasonably. Breakfast was fine, they were very open to make whatever was wanted, in my case usually a fried egg, fresh bread, fruit, cold meat etc.

Ana and Pepe are two of the kindest people I have met. I was only 18 when i stayed with them and could speak very little Spanish. It was hugely encouraging to have them speaking some English and they were very helpful in arranging everything for me. Taxis to wherever, Buses, Pepe even came to the University with me to organise Spanish lessons. Whenever i returned to Habana i always went to their house and even if i couldn't stay there due to lack of room, they found me another house very close by in minutes.

Overall, they gave me a splendid time in the cultural heart of Cuba and they definitely deserve 5 out of 5. Thank you both.
