We visited Havana in January and had a great experience of Cuban warmth, hospitality and (yes!) efficiency.

It is not a regular situation, but sometimes you have to exercise restraint as a tourist. This is certainly true when you are a guest (a "friend", as they would put it) at Ana y Pepe. Nothing is too difficult or burdensome for them - "yes, of course, no problem" - is the guaranteed answer. So, it has to be your inner decency which tells when to stop asking for more.

Ana y Pepe, thanks for your immaculate and spacious lodgings, for constant help and sound advice on Havana and Cuba, for all reservations that you made for us, but most of all, thanks for your warmest hospitality.

Well before Patrick and I even arrived in Cuba from Australia, Ana and Pepe were impressively friendly and helpful with email advice about the use of travellers cheques, credit cards and an invitation to share Christmas with them. Even though we were going on an Intrepid trip and not staying with them immediately, Pepe met us with a taxi at Havana airport and sorted through all the confusion when we found that our hotel in Vedado could not accommodate us and had arranged for us to go to another hotel. When we finally got to stay with Ana and Pepe two weeks later, they were just so warm, friendly and obliging. Nothing was too much trouble- ordering taxis, serving coffee and lunch and recommending an excellent local paladare - the Decameron. Best of all, we were invited to share Christmas Eve celebrations with Ana and Pepe and their friends and family. They cooked and prepared all day and presented a wonderful meal - no mean feat in Cuba when it is so hard to get so many things. The casa is some way from the centre of Havana but a taxi fare was only around 4-5 CUC each way and it was worth the experience of riding in taxis ranging in standard from the little yellow coco-taxis (egg taxis) through to private taxis of varying degrees of road worthiness and finally immaculate state owned taxis, the fares for which were metered and totally non negotiable.
The casa was spotlessly clean and the room was serviced daily. We felt very comfortable 'coming and going' and are happy to recommend this casa as excellent value for money. I should mention that private and public smoking is still hugely prevalent in Cuba and non smokers will just have to accept the smoking culture and environment as best they can.

Ana and Pepe are a delight. From our arrival they made us feel very welcome and were more than happy to help arrange our trip around Cuba. With only a little Spanish this made life a lot easier. All the Casas Ana kindly organised for us were of a similarly high standard of accomodation with friendly owners. We would recommend Casa Ana as a great place to discover Havana!

ana and pepe are beautiful people. when i finally made up my mind on when i was to arrive in cuba there wasnt any room available for me at there casa, but they booked me into another lovely home. I went over to there home to thank them and once i met them i was in love. I kept returning to visit them and always felt welcomed into there casa. Pepe and i would sit and listen to cuban music while drinking his mojitoes( I MISS THESE PEOPLE ). I hope to return to there lovely country and you can bet on it i'll be knocking on the door of casa ana as soon as i arrive in havana.
