We stayed at the Hotel Saratoga with our 4 year old son for five days
in March 2007.
Staff: Raoul the Concierge was all that everyone said he would be. Warm, friendly, and extremely helpful. He is an invaluable asset to this establishment. We found the other staff to also be very personable. One woman, Victoria, babysat our son on two occasions. She was so sweet and tender with him. He was still asking about her long after we had returned home. Almost all of the staff went out of their way to engage our son. Everyone was very kind.
Food: I have no complaints about the food. The hot buffet breakfast was very good. The selection was varied and we were able to find something we all liked every morning--including the finicky 4 year old. We had lunch and dinner in the hotel a couple of times and found the food to be good-not great. Ditto that on the service. Room service was very speedy.
Room: We stayed in a junior suite. It had a small balcony. It was huge, large enough to accomodate the three of us. The bathroom was out of this world. It had a tub and a separate shower. Very spacious.
Hotel: Beautiful architecture with exquisite details. Perfect location for exploring Old Havana. Fantastic rooftop pool! Good elevators.
Tour: We also recommend contacting the famous Jorge, guide extraordinaire (not an employee of the hotel). We did so in advance and were so glad we did. He arranged for us to be picked up at the airport. Then, because he wasn't personally available, had an excellent employee give us a walking tour one day and a driving tour the next day. She was a former professor at the University. Very knowledgeable, very warm and easy to talk to. The best way to get the
inside scoop on the city.
We highly recommend this hotel. Havana is a wonderful place and our stay at Hotel Saratoga was a key element of our trip.
