When we arrived at Hotel Vedado it all looked very grand from the front. Inside the main foyer it was nice, however, the space was limited. We got the keys to our rooms and got the lift upstairs. However, we soon found that our rooms were not in the main hotel but in an outside building with a small lift that could only fit 5 or so people.
As we got upstairs, we got into our rooms. They were clean but simple, however the television in my room didnt work. The shower and toilet worked fine in comparison to other rooms who either didnt have hot water or theire toilet wouldnt flush.
At one point in the first couple of days the lights in our hall went out, so we had to use the small lamps provided. Also, the air conditioning did work however, it was very noisy and you couldnt sleep with it on.
A couple of days in and the lift broke. We had to walk the to the 6th floor everyday up and down. Even on our departure we had to carry our suitcases down the stairs!
The food on the whole was alrite. I requested fried eggs while most people had omlettes. The bread tasted funny and we were warned not to drink the water there.
The hotel bragged about its internet access however, everytime i asked about it, they said they had run out of cards.
The dinner there was rather limited. Rice with pork, rice with beef, rice with fish. That was it. The starter pasta was amazing, probably the best meal i had out there.
There is a restaurant outside the back of the hotel. The food there was nice and it was open around the clock so you could order a burger at 2am and they didnt mind.
On the whole the hotel was ok, considering the minor fall backs. The pool was fun, except after a while they banned us from using rugby balls in the pool. They really liked to ruin the fun for us tourists!
