“Nice and affordable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2011

I stayed at this hotel because of its excellent location and reasonable prices. The building is a reminder of the good ol’ days, very elegant. It was restored and is still in a good shape. The furniture though is old, as well is the tellie and bathroom appliances. The breakfast could be better, but the staff is kind. After I left I found out I had forgotten my cell phone. I called them, they found and kept it safe until I could pick it up 2 weeks later. Last tip: Visit their rooftop garden, it’s lovely.

Hotel Raquel is superbly located in Old Havana very close to Plaza Veija, so convenient for beer mojitos. The hotel itself is splendidly restored with a real sense of grandeur. The rooms were clean and the shower was ok, lukewarm mostly. We didn't have a window in our room but that helped us sleep. It was pretty noisy on a weekday morning though. The roof garden is nice, it's a shame there isn't a bar up there, but they do bring drinks up if requested (and tipped). Breakfast is this hotel's Achilles heel; buffet style but not kept too fresh and looked unappealing. I stuck to bread mostly, and fruit if I was feeling brave.

Room Tip: Ask for a window, and a double bed if you'd prefer that to two singles.

hotel in old havana in jewish quarter with really nice foyer and 24hr bar food in dining room hit and miss mainly chicken and pork with rice and beans, the rooms are a bit smelly with damp as there is no windows and water sprays everywhere from badly cracked shower heads we stayed in 211 hannah and freinds stayed in 212 also dodgy shower heads. staff ok breakfast is a bun fight with very small buffet. but hotel is very central for beuna vista social club and good bars . drink 5.4 buccernero not crystal

Room Tip: higher floors less noise

We recently stayed at Hotel Raquel in Havana. It's a beautiful building in a good location but thats really where the "pros" end. Like one of the other reviewers, we stayed in Room 203 "the Soloman" Room. A Junior suite on the second floor. The room was clean but so old that it looked dirty no matter what. Beds have no boxsprings and are uneven. You find yourself rolling to one side all night. Fortunately, you get snagged on the springs that are sticking out to stop you from falling on the floor.

As i mentioned before, the Suite is called the "Soloman" room. It should really be called the "Chicken Coop" as the building directly across from this room is a home to a half dozen chickens and more importantly roosters. They are supposed to crow at dawn. Sadly, nobody told these roosters how it works as they go most of the night.

AVOID THE BREAKFAST. There is a reason they give it to you for free. I've eaten duck tongue and scorpions in Asia and I would not touch this food. There are lots of flies that do so don't worry. It wont go to waste.

All in all, not a positive experience. I would strongly recommend that you find another, more established hotel if you want to stay in Old Havana. Not sure where the positive reviews came from that made me book this place.

Room Tip: Do not get room 203 a.k.a. "The Soloman Room". It's poor value, the bed is terrible a...

I stayed in this hotel for three nights in total, when we first arrived in Havana and two weeks later for two nights at the end of the trip. The hotel was booked as part of a package so I'm not sure how much it cost per night. Its a truly beautiful building with character, room I stayed in was a twin on the 2nd floor and was big and spcious, lovely high ceilings and has air-con. Its right in the centre of old Havana so brilliant location for some sight-seeing and also restaurants.

Only drawbacks, the breakfast selection isn't great in comparison to some of the other hotels so don't expect much. The hotel is also inaccessible by car. They can get within one block of it, literally only a two minute walk but don't expect to be dropped to the door.

The staff are lovely, particularly the restaurant staff. They were chatty and friendly. I'd definitely stay here again.

Good Position in Habana Vieja.
I reserved a Junior Suite at the second floor at the corner, so I think one of the best rooms. But it was great to see from outside, less from inside. Old and not really clean furniture. Bed and Mattress really uncomfortable.
My room number was 203.
