Roberto, saraida and mama made us most welcome and treated us like family and also taught me to salsa. Best breakfast in Cuba. We met some lovely people while staying there. Arriving back in Havana we called Roberto and he arranged accommodation for us as they were booked up. Nothing was too much trouble

What do I look for when I travel? The chance to get to know a country, city and people in a way that staying in a hotel cannot provide. BUT I try to choose somewhere that's welcoming, central andclean - hence my choice of Casa Colonial 1715. It's in the heart of Old Havana and the welcome form Zoraida and Roberto put me in the mood to enjoy the city - bearing in mind that some surrounding alleyways are somewhat forbidding! And the joy of it - a really comfortable bed, a lofty room, the best (private) bathroom-plumbing I personally experienced in all Cuba.
Then, in the morning, a damned good, hearty breakfast to set me up for the touring to come.
My hopes and expectations for staying 'en famille' were more than fulfilled. Viva Casa Colonial 1715 !

Our first three days in Havana were at Casa Colonial 1715 and we'd booked based on TripAdvisor comments....which were all absolutely spot-on! We were treated like family and made to feel so incredibly welcome. Roberto gave us an excellent introduction to Havana - where to go, what to do, what not to do. Roberto's English is a little broken and my husband Mark doesn't speak a word of Spanish but they had no problems having some fabulous conversations! And many, many laughs! It didn't matter what time we got home after an evening adventure but he was always keen to hear about our experiences and we learnt alot about his family and the history of the Casa. Zoraida is Roberto's beautiful wife and she has a delightful manner, always taking care that her guests are happy. The breakfasts were great, fresh guavas and bananas, fresh bread - and some super-strong coffee with cream! A good start to the day. The rooms in the Casa are a very good size and very colourful! The location is excellent too....just a short walking distance to everywhere and yet remarkably quiet. Having no plans for after Havana, we took Roberto and Zoraida's recommendations for Vinales and Trinidad - and they were excellent recommendations and helped make our Cuba holiday such a success. They also helped us book an American car to take us to Vinales which was a great experience. In-between cities, we stayed another night at Casa Colonial 1715 and they were kind enough to store our suitcases between the visits - we had no question about the safety and security of our belongings.
We would highly recommend anyone visiting Havana to stay with Roberto, Zoraida and the extended family - and their cute little dog!! We certainly left feeling that we had left lifelong friends behind!

Casa Colonial 1715 is one of the better casas we stayed at on our two visits to Cuba. It is located two blocks from Obispo, which is the main pedestrian walkway through Habana Vieja. Most sights, restaurants and shop are within easy walking distance. The owners, Roberto and Zoraida are pleasant and will go to considerable trouble to help with your travel plans. They only serve breakfast.

Room Tip: The front bedroom is the only one with an en-suite.

Our stay at Casa Colonial 1715 was a wonderful experience. Our hosts were always very friendly, including their dog. The room we had was clean, comfortable and colourful.

We asked for the 4CUC breakfast on both mornings we stayed there, and we were provided with a lot of food – a variety of delicious fruit and pastries with coffee. When we told them before we did not like eggs, they replaced eggs with tomatoes. We were given a cigar with breakfast. Breakfast was enjoyed in the garden.

We could also be left alone in our room when we wanted, and the room was quiet. There was no problem with us being out later in the evening, someone was always nearby to let us in the door!

The casa is also located in a great location in Old Havana, down a quiet old street, within short walking distance to restaurants, important tourist locations and museums. It was a bit difficult to find when we first arrived – but luckily our taxi driver helped us out by asking directions.

When we first arrived, Roberto provided us a map and explained to us which areas we could visit, and what areas we should avoid at night and other tourist information. (Old Havana isn’t dangerous, but there are general tourist precautions you need to take anywhere you go.)

Unfortunately, our Spanish is non-existent so we were not able to communicate as well as we would have liked to get to know our host family better. Our hosts were very patient with us. (Each of us apologized profusely for our lack of fluency in each other’s language!)

It was an especially refreshing part of our trip as my husband and I stayed for most of our week in Cuba at an all-inclusive resort in Varadero. I wish we had spent more time staying with Roberto, Zoraida and their family in Old Havana instead of the resort. I would recommend this casa to my friends and would definitely return if I come back to Havana.

This is really one of the best places to stay in Havana.
A different experience for those who used to stay in hotels. You should keep in mind - you're living in a family. Don't confuse Roberto and his family with the hotel staff. They are your friends - honest, hard working, very open and welcoming.
Roberto's casa is extremely well-located - just 5 min. of slow walk to Capitolio and within a 15 min. of walking to most places in Old Havana. The bank with an exchange booth is a few blocks up, as well as the biggest local supermarket.
Rooms are pretty good (try to check Cuban hotels - most of their accomodation will be in worse condition), Roberto and Zoraida clean thier casa every day with extreme dedication (go there and see yourself how they spend hours cleaning things all around), and grandma makes really good breakfasts.
Roberto is learning English, so you can speak with him about anything in the world (a few spanish words will be handy, though). Be communicative, talk with that people - they can tell you lots of interesting things about Cuba that you won't find on the net.
Everything is flexible here - you can have breakfast when you want, you can ask Roberto for directions and hints about Havana (he can show you some great places to eat just around the corner with great lobsters and drinks - twice cheaper then you can find yourself).
One of the rooms has a bathroom across the kitchen, this may be a bit uncomfortable for some people, BUT - that bathroom twice bigger then the ones that are located inside the other rooms, it's completely private and won't be used by anyone except you.
Again - ask Roberto for help if you need it, he can arrange almost everything, it will be better and cheaper then you can imagine.
Go around the city, check out other casas and see yourself - Roberto's house is like an oasis hidden in the shabby streets of Havana.

We could not fault this casa. Great location on a quiet street in Havana's old town, very secure and extremely friendly and helpful hosts. Comfortable ensuite rooms and a great breakfast, including a cigar!! Have already recommended to a number of friends and would definitely stay at Casa Colonial 1715 if we were to return to Havana
