As I read most of the reviews for Valencia, it seems no one mentioned the toilet problems that the hotel rooms have. Basically the toilets are not private, you have a saloon type half door which is right in the middle of your room. If you are looking for privacy to do your toilet activities...this is not the hotel for you ...The staff was not very friendly and not too knowledgable. The location of the hotel was PERFECT though..we were walking distance for many of Old Havanas best tourist attractions....The room was relativly clean, linens clean , some paint chipping on the walls...The restaurant in the hotel has one of the best Paella's i have ever had.
Overall if you plan to go to Havana and not spend too much time in your hotel room then this is a great place for you ..you really can not beat the location of this hotel..it is ideal...If you can try to get room GRANIDA...that was our second room..it was spacious with 25 ft ceilings....give it a try...u may have to bribe the front desk...

As with many other people who wrote here, we were placed in the hotel comendador on the second floor with very low ceilings. It was the type of place that would have been great if it was half the price, or if these second floor rooms were less expensive than the ones upstairs, many of which had balconies and much higher ceilings.

We were disappointed because we booked a few months in advance and stayed here the first few nights of our honeymoon and they still put us in a crappy room in the secondary hotel. The second night we asked for a better room with a balcony as it was our honeymoon, and they acted very friendly and accomodating, but when we went to our new room we found it was on the same floor in the comendador and was virtually the same as our first one.

If you are travelling to havana and want to save money I would suggest staying in casas particulaires or if you want to stay in a nice hotel, spend the extra money to stay in a better hotel. We stayed in a casas pariticulaires in Vinales which was a very nice experience and the last night we stayed at the Hotel Nacional which had excellent service. They even gave us free champagne for our honeymoon.

Great location - very safe, big and clean rooms. The breakfast was the definitiv best one in Cuba: You have the choise between different national specialities every morning! The biggest plus with the Hostal Valencia - THE ATMOSPERE...you feel like in a romance cuban film;-) Only negative point: Some of the staff are not very friendly - the guys who serve the guests in the morning are very rude. Other are so helpful ... but you can find this everywhere. We would come back to this place at any time!

The Hotel Valencia is in a great location for night life and daytime events, its very central for getting about Havana. The restaurant speciality is paella and it wonderful. The all the staff are very courteous. The rooms are a good size and are cleaned to a high standard.
