I stayed in the Hotel Telegrafo for a few days in November 2007 while on the first few days of a tour. It’s in a great location a few moments away from the Capitolio building and a short walk from both the sea and Old Havana. The bar area is very pleasant with a glass atrium effect and there are also tables outside so you can eat and drink while watching the world go by.

The room was adequate although the only window overlooked the atrium down below. There was no window looking outside. Saying this, it wasn’t particularly quiet as I did hear music coming up from the bar below. The room was quite clean but other than that it was all very average. There was a safe in the room as well as a mini fridge.

Overall I’d say this is a perfectly acceptable hotel to act as a base for exploring Havana, assuming you don’t intend to spend time in your room other than sleeping.

Because of internal flight time changes, due to it being 1st May, Revolution Day, we ahd to stay at the Telegrafo for 1 night. It's lobby and exterior are fantastic, it's rooms are as you'd expect from a 4* in Cuba.
Go to the restaurant and although you'll pay top rates for the food, their steaks are worth every peso. Cooked to perfection and delicious.
Afterwards a cocktail (the mojitos are good) on the terrace whilst watching the world go by is a lovely way to pass an evening.

We have just returned following a two week honeymoon in cuba. we booked via travel agent and flew with Virgin Atlantic from Gatwick. We stayed at the Hotel Telegrafo for two nights and the Paradisus Princesa del mar resort, Varadero for the remaining twelve (also reviewed).

Firstly the flight, was on time and what we have come to expect as we have flown with Virgin previously. The staff on the plane were not as switched on as they could have been though. We did go to the Virgin Club lounge at Gatwick prior to our flight and highly recommend it.

As we were flying into Havana we decided to go straight to the city before moving to the resort, many do this differently and choose to go on a tour during there stay. If flying into Havana do what we did as it is a two and a half hour journey to the resort.

We have read the reviews on trip advisor for the Telegrafo so thought we knew a little of what to expect. It was far better than we expected. on arrival we were upgraded to a suite, this was not asked for by ourselves and had been done by the hotel as we were on our honeymoon. The conceirge was quick and efficient. The room was very large and looked over the bar area it was also very clean and was kept this way by the cleaner.

The bar area was lovely, staff efficient and helpful. One thing we discovered is everyone has there own mojito recipe however we had some of our best ones at the hotel bar certainly better than the Ambus Mundos where Hemmingway enjoyed his!.

Breakfast was good, yes as mentioned it can be a little different but the main thing is the quality was good. they will also cook you eggs to order as you like and these are excellent. we did not eat at the hotel during the evening or day but the burgers looked great and we spoke to another couple who had their evening meal there and they said it was excellent.

in general the hotel was very good the only problem was trying to use the internet we were told we couldn't even though others were, strange!! we saw into the smaller rooms when the cleaners were about and these looked good. others have mentioned problems with safes in the rooms ours was brand new and you had to enter your own code every time you left it. we did not have a problem and would suggest the hotel have replaced them due to the other complaints.

We did visit the Park Central hotel across the road to change money this was much bigger and also looked very nice. we would use this if we visited again but only because we discovered it had a rooftop swimming pool!

Havana in general is fantastic, its a little daunting at first, its very run down and very busy. One piece of advice you should really consider is buy a guide book, read it before you go and carry it with you when you are there. The other piece of advice is relax and go with the flow, if you don't you will hate it, the Cubans are proud people and whilst they have little money crime is not a problem we felt safer with £500 in our pockets around Havana than we do with £5.00 in the Uk. we did most of the tourist areas, the cigar factory is a must even if you have never smoked one. the rum museum a bit boring if you've just done the cigar factory! Tropicana show whilst pricey is worth a visit.

We stayed there for four nights. The hotel is well located for walking around Havana Vieja (the old town) and close to the best paladre in town - la Guarida. Clean and average size double room with two dwouble beds. Had a leaking air conditioning system in the bedroom. We did not complain as it was not that big of a problem. Breakfasts and drinks (mojitos, cuba libres and beers) were good, but I'd strongly advise against dining at the hotel restaurant - barely fresh food. You are much better off walking across the Parque Central sqare to the Parque Central hotel. We had a couple of snacks and pina colada / cuba libre there - very good.

We arrived early hours of the morning, after a 10 hour flight delay. The reception staff were great and got us to our rooms quickly so we could get some much needed rest.

Our room was huge, we had booked a standard room, but were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite with a lounge, bedroom, toilet and a bathroom with jacuzzi!!! Everything was very clean. The room overlooked the main square which was fasinating to just open the large windows and watch the world go by.

Breakfast was adequate with plenty of choice, freshly cooked omelates or eggs cooked how you wish. We ate lunch there too which again was very good.

The hotel is in a great position and easy to travel around Havana. The only bad point we could find was there exchange rate was not too good so we would visit the Parque Central to exchange money.

  • Liked — Great location and excellant rooms
