We stayed here at the end of our trip round Cuba. I was pretty disappointed by the hotel- having stayed in the fantastic Sol Rio de Luna y Mares in Guardalavaca where service and facilities were brilliant.
The location is fantastic, and very useful to reach the Malecon for running, or to go to museums or shops.

But the general standards of the hotel were very poor. We'd requested a double room, but they gave us a twin room that someone was still painting. We insisted on the double, but were given a very small room. Apparently all of the doubles are tiny (worth noting honeymooners?), and the twins are all larger.

The lifts were broken still when we left on the 16th December, and it was frustrating hanging around or climbing on the dingy stairs. And the poor porters!

A general lack of care for guests' comfort was evident. The breakfast room was being painted whilst we were eating in there! Receptionists gossiped and ignored requests. The pool changing and showering area for women has been shut for a long time (so you can't freshen up before flying home on an evening flight) and the aircon, and several pieces of gym equipment are broken in the gym.

We did receive alot of help from the tourist desk next to the reception however. He told us how to see the baseball series, and booked us into a great paladar (La Cocina de Liliam- I also highly recommend La Guarida).

If you approach the hotel as a 2* you won't be too disappointed, and the occasional gems will feel like a bonus.

My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights at the start of a twin centre holiday in Cuba and were both very impressed.

The hotel is really beautiful and I found the rooms very clean, bright and large. All the staff were very friendly, especially the maids that cleaned our room every day.

The breakfast buffet was okay and, like the previous reviewer, I would definitely recommend the coffee! The best I've tasted anywhere! The restaurant on the top floor of the hotel was stunning with amazing views. The food was lovely and not as expensive as you would think.

The pool was an added bonus and the location of the hotel couldn't have been better.

The only bad thing about the hotel was the lifts. They were really slow and seemed to have minds of their own! They would stop at random floors regardless of the wishes of the people waiting and the people travelling in them! It was really annoying and in the end we didn't bother using them (which was hard work considering we were staying on the 8th floor!).

Aside from the rubbish lifts, I would highly recommend the Sevilla. It had a really nice atmosphere and really made me feel like I was in Havana.

My friend and I stayed at the Sevilla on the weekend of Dec 9th. Sevilla is a beautiful hotel. Everyone was pleasant to us. The breakfast buffet was not great but better than expected. There is an omelette station with a chef. He could also cook your eggs to order. There is a variety of pastries, fruit and some questionable appetizers. I would recommend staying away from the appetizers and fruit. The coffee machine is fabulous. I recommend the coffee with milk. The staff were very friendly and helpful to us as well.

When checking in, we kindly asked the lady for a nice room with two separate beds. She must have given us the biggest room in the hotel. It was huge and beautiful with high ceilings. The view was not great but we did not care.

The only negative comment about the hotel was the lifts. They were very slow and one of them was out of service. One of the lifts would pass our floor every time and bring us to the top of the hotel. It was quite annoying.

There is a restaurant on the top floor of the hotel. We did not try it but it looks beautiful and most likely very expensive. You can also see the view of Havana from the top of the hotel. Absolutely stunning.

Aside from the lift issue, I would highly recommend the Sevilla.

First of all, have to have in mind that Cuba is not the place if you are looking for perfection.I think also one has to rate the hotel on a "Cuban" scale. We stayed November 11-15 2005, me and my wife, our three children (13,10 and 1) and my parents. The elevator was broken now and then and we had no hot water during those four days. But still, loved the hotel.
The building have very beautiful spots, and the hotel is situated perfectly. Food was ok for us, both the breakfast and the snacks we had at the pool every now and then. the lobbybar is very beautiful with live music every day. This is also the only hotel in Habana Vieja (old town) with a pool. This was important for us, something for the children too.
We had very large rooms with great views, on the 4th floor facing the Prado, the street with trees and a walking area in the middle of it.
If you are interested in visiting Havana, and you are aware of the fact that it is not like home, no matter where you are coming from, then I warmly recommend hotel Sevilla.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the start of a tour of E Cuba.
Another wonderful-looking hotel well-located in the heart of Havana. There is a massive pool area that is quite difficult to locate. The interior is great, with a pretty open-air bar area next to the lobby. Restaurant is average quality, although the choice at buffet is quite good. Our room was very large and somewhat gloomy and smelt slightly of damp. 1 main complaint - there was only 1 working lift for a large 9-floored hotel. It had a mind of its own and it seemed to be a matter of chance whether it stopped at a particular floor or not, regardless of the buttons pressed! Hopefully this has been fixed by now. If not, allow 10 minutes to get down to the lobby!
