Just across the road from the Musuem of the Revolution, this hotel was all that I had imagined Havana to be - crumbling, slightly faded, a glimpse into the past and full of character. Yes, there was a bit of mould on the ceiling in the bathroom and the plaster work was a bit crumbly but with the high humidity, what can you expect? Was a bit worried when we found out our room overlooked the bar (open 24 hours) but the windows are double glazed, so no problem there. The Patio bar does an excellent Mojito and one evening they were using the old film projectors in the lobby to show old american black and white films!
Breackfast was chaotic - we asked for a cup, the waiter eventually brought six out and about 30 people jumped up to grab one! People were also queueing for a table. Not a relaxing start to the day but then 'this is Cuba'.
Staff all friendly and the maids left a lovely hand written note in our room.. My only complaint - I wasn't in Havana for longer!
