I visited Habana with agroup of friends aand stayed in the Sevilla for 11 nights
Great central location, could easily walk around old Habana from this hotel, 5 minutes from the Capital building, and 15 from the open market by the Harbour.
Food in the hotel was a bit basic, breakfast a bit repetative, but saved by girl making omletes and fried eggs to order. Best food was to be had in the rooftop restuarant, but this was a bit more pricey. Had an evening meal at the buffet in the Hotel National 20cuc, best value food we had during our stay. Our room on the 6th floor had a great view of the harbour area and the lighthouse. It was well looked after, good clean bathroom but lacked the fridge some other had.
You could get a city tour bus to the beach 5 mins walk away 5cuc for a day ticket, 40 mins bus journey,so you could easily combine a beach and city break. Same ticket allowed you to use 3 diffent city tour buses so great value and could be used to get around if you timed your journeys.
I went scuba diving in Mirimar, a 10cuc taxi fair and good shore diving of the Malacon, plenty of small life, Moray eels, devil and puffer fish amonst the usual suspects, for some reason no lobsters.
Music in the lobby bar varied, some very good, but some at best average, be prepared to be offered cd's by every performer, a trait repeated throughout Habana. The bar stayed open as long as there were customers around, and the barstaff very friendly and happy to chat. Only downside was the mojitos which I rated amonst the poorest we were served in Habana.
Had thought 11 nights in Habana may have been a bit much before we arrived, but time flew in there was plenty to do and see, and plenty of different types of restuarants if you looked around. Too many highlights to mention them all, but with a good guidebook and a good pair of walking shoes you could easily amuse yourselves for twice as long.
