This hotel is incredible! Not only is the lobby and outer facade a beautiful example of Havana's diverse design, but the room was great. 12 foot ceilings, windows opening up to a small patio overlooking the Prada. Too amazing ... We spent 5 nights here in the heart of Centro Habana and will definately return. One thing we recognized pretty quickly is that most of the people who have been booked into this hotel on overnight excursions from the resorts are given the much smaller rooms. However, everyone that we talked to that was staying for 3 nights or more were put in spacious, palacial suites. But even for someone just staying one night, the reception staff are helpful and attentive, the location gives you easy walking access to everything in the Centro and Vieja areas. The waterfront is a five minute walk away down the pedestrian walkway on the Prada. It was a great hotel in a super location.

We stayed at the Sevilla for 4 nights at the end of February. We arrived there about noon, and fortunately our room was ready. We were on the 4th floor, in a room next to the lifts. Despite previous mentions of constant noise generated from the lifts, this did not seem to be a problem, and I did not have any trouble with noise (and I am a light sleeper). While on the subject of lifts the hotel has 2 new lifts, which are speedy! We never waited more than a few seconds for a lift the entire stay!

The room was fairly small. There was not much room around the bed. One of our suitcases went on the floor- the other inside the cupboard. There was a dresser, and a large desk with a chair, a TV and a small refrigerator. There was a safe inside the cupboard that was opened with the room key.

We did not have a view at all, but even if we did, the desk was placed in front of the window, so it was not easy to see outside.
The bathroom was adequate. The water pressure was not very good. It took a while for the water to heat up and a couple of times there was no hot water. The bed and pillows were comfortable.

The room was a bit shabby (paint peeling, etc) but was clean. The airconditioning worked well, and was not noisy.

The lobby area was large with lots of seating. There seemed to be constant entertainment in the bar area. What we did see (as we were going past) looked good.

Breakfast was OK. The staff seemed a little disorganised/disinterested and the tables often were without cutlery, so people had to wait for tables, despite the room not being busy. The omelettes were good.

Overall, I was happy with our stay the Sevilla, particularly given the average reviews. The location is great, and we were able to walk to most of our destinations. We did not feel unsafe walking at night in the area. However I do think it is a little expensive for the quailty of the hotel, and if I were in Havana again I would probably stay somewhere different .

Interesting hotel with less problems than expected. Excellent position in city centre. Two new lifts and two older ones. No problems with new lifts.

A nice hotel that is looking a little tired in places. The breakfast room waiting staff are surly, rude and unhelpful to the point of being a tourist attraction themselves. Pretty good (free) entertainment for most of the day in the lobby area including some excellent local bands. Great surrounding area including strolls along the Prado outside and visits to the Museum of the Revolution just around the corner. Even the back streets are safe (during the day) if you are sensible. Stick to the main streets at night though, just to be on the right side. This hotel is OK if you remember where you are and allow for the shortcomings. Have a good stroll around and admire the decor, the photographs, the ornate ceilings and so on, and just laugh to yourself about the antics of the waitng staff at breakfast time!

  • Liked — Faded elegance.
  • Disliked — Some of the staff.

Avoid this hotel. It is highly overrated (specially by Lonely Planet). The lobby is fine with all the ambience etc. But one sleeps and bathes in the room. They are small, plumbing does not work, the beds are saggy, there is no aircon, the bath tub was showing its age, the elevators are scarce and scary, the service throughout is indifferent at best, the breakfast is pathetic (avoid it completely, it is unhygeniec, unappetizing and inedible). However, the location is great. Go down a couple of blocks, and try the Parc Central Hotel. A far better option.
