I have been reading some bad reviews about this Hotel and wonder where those people stayed ..

I spent 10 days in the Sevilla at the beginning of September .. The room was more than adequate .. The water was hot and the bed was just fine .. There were more than plenty of towels, the sheets were clean.. and the room was cleaned every day by a very efficient group of maids .. I dropped a bottle of Maple syrup on the floor and asked a maid if she could clean it up .. 30 minutes later there was no trace of the accident ..

The reception has always been courteous and efficient when I requested any help or information.

The bar's service is a bit slow but that's just Cuba..

My air-conditioner worked quietly and well ..

I will admit that I couldn't understand what had happened to the toaster at breakfast, no one seemed to know why it had been removed.. but there was more than sufficient food both in volume and variety .. The waitress was very fast in offering more coffee and made sure the table was set properly ..

I have stayed in many of Havana's hotels and I rate this Hotel as one of the top 3 .. and the least expensive one of the 3 ..

The rooms have always been good and the food is right up near the top for Havana Cuba ..

I will agree that it would be nice for all 4 elevators to be working .. but in the 5 years I have been going there it hasn't happened yet and I don't expect it will ever happen. The most that have worked at once was 3 of them.. 1 for the guests and 2 for the staff .. All my rooms have been far way from the elevators so I'm never disturbed by the beeping .. But I do find it useful to hear when I'm waiting for one and it arrives ..

The Location is great for exploring old and Central Havana and is just a 3 cuc taxi trip from Vadado and the Hotel National area..

I have no problem recommending this Hotel to anyone visting Havana ..

A waste of a great location. Badly managed heritage hotel. Avoid!

We stayed in 5 hotels in Cuba and the Sevilla was by far the worst. The location is great and the lobby is very elegant. Everything else was really bad, and it seemed to be a problem with the management. Here is our list of complaints:

The whole place was very grubby. The elevators were out of action except for one tiny service lift, so we used the emergency stairs. These were dirty and uneven and there was no attempt to brighten up this unpleasant route.

Our room was large with a high ceiling and elegant old furniture but it was filthy. The paintwork was stained, the window sills had a thick layer of grime, the curtains were grey instead of white, the bed was very well worn, the telephone didn't work, one of the bedside lamps was faulty, the lighting was dingy, there was no socket for the dressing table lamp, the floor had not been cleaned so our bare feet made the sheets dirty, the bath was a disgrace and there was virtually no hot water.

Breakfast was total chaos. The layout of the restaurant was designed to make it difficult. The coffee dispenser (which was only working on one day) was next to the egg chef so the queue for eggs was constantly being interrupted by people after coffee. There were not enough cups or glasses and the staff were largely disinterested.

This is one of Cuba's heritage hotels and it deserves to be run by professional management. Something is seriously wrong here and I recommend staying somewhere else in Havana until they sort it out.

The other places we stayed were generally very good. These were Jagua Ceinfuegos, Moka Hotel, Breezes Jibacoa, and Tejadillo Havana.

Unfortunately the recent reviews of this hotel proved to be absolutely on the button. The lobby area is by far and away the best part of the hotel but you can visit this for a drink and stay elsewhere.
I don't think I can really add anything new with regard the lifts or lift as it was for most of our 4 night stay. Our kids thought it was funny to begin with but it wears pretty thin very quickly. There is work going on for the other 2 lifts but it didn't appear close to finishing.
The staff tended to be pretty uninterested at best and downright rude at worst. the latter refers to the lady on reception in particular.
We did get nice notes from our room maids and the towel sculptures were great. The air con worked in only one of our 2 rooms for the first day only. After that it was sleeping with open windows, less than ideal 5 floors up with kids.
Breakfasts were ok. Bit of a struggle to get cutlery and cups. best bet was DIY.
It may get itself sorted out but at present give it a miss although it's worth a drink in the lobby

We were very optimistic when we arrived as the foyer is stunning and check inwas very smooth and quick.
However, our room (525) was small and in obvious need of a serious up date.
It wasn't very clean but we were tired so settled down for the night.
Everything you have read about the lifts is true - they are slow and unreliable but they also seem to run all night and stop on every floor where they ping seven times. it turned into some sort of bizarre torture as we lay awake counting them.
The bed side light didn't work and several springs appeared to be loose in the bed
The shower was not good and it was a battle to get the temperature right as it switched very quickly from hot to cold with a very weak stream.
Breakfast was characterised by mediocre food and lacklustre service. It took several goes to get a table, then a cup, then a saucer and finally a cup of coffee. Staff seemed to be very busy clearing tables but not doing much else.
We have been to Havana before and stayed at Telegrafo and would recommend you try and get a reservation there and give the Sevilla a miss.
It looks shabby and instead of upgrading it they just appear to have painted over everything on several occasions
We were only staying two days but

  • Liked — Location and foyer
  • Disliked — Poor quality rooms and service. The lift was a nightmare!

We stayed for 3 nights at the Sevilla in November this year. The room we were allocated was the size of a postage stamp - we arrived to find dirty towels laying all over the bathroom (it had clearly not been cleaned) and the damp smell pervaded everywhere. The one chair in the room was broken and the "wardrobe" (it was 2 feet wide) had the door hanging off its hinges. Overall the room was filthy - a large piece of the ceiling coving was missing and the aircon unit in the ceiling was particularly dirty. The "view" from the window was out over what looked to be a rooftop building site. There was one lift in the whole hotel working - the goods lift - which was again filthy at best - you could expect to wait at least 10 mins for it and then have to travel in an over-loaded lift with the dirty towels trolley. The service was shockingly slow - we asked to change rooms (but had to spend one night in this room initially) - it took them over half an hour on reception to get the key to the new room to us and even then they gave us the wrong key!

We wanted to stay somewhere more traditional in Havana but we would never stay here again - it needs updating at the very least.
