We didn't expect luxury staying in Cuba at the Hostal Del Tejadillo, but we did expect a few basics. We asked to change rooms when we found an absence of window but the only one available had single beds so we declined. We did get a room with a kitchenette, but it didn't work. Maintenance were supposed to come and fix it, but they never did. There was no toilet seat so we asked for one, we didn't get it. Items went missing from the room, nothing of significant value so we didn't report it (10+biros??). There where no security boxes in the room so don't take anything too valuable. The breakfast was ok but don't expect anything other than bread and jam/cheese if you are vegetarian.
We stayed for 2 weeks and didn't feel that the Hostal catered for long stays, it's fine for short breaks.

We also had a video camera stolen from our suitcase which was more likely from the airport but who knows.........?

Bit suprised to find that our room had no window. At all. If we'd been staying longer we would have moved.
However the room was clean, the hotel pretty and the situation fantastic. It was great to be right in the middle of the old town.
They have some very good bands in the bar, so having an early evening cocktail was a real pleasure.

Arriving late at night, we were disappointed that there was a problem with our room (water leak) and that we had to be put up in another hotel, but the receptionist and porter transferred us without fuss and brought us swiftly back the next day so we could settle in.
The hotel is in a great location, just off the Plaza de la Cathedral. Close to the sights but not in the thick of it. The shutters on to the streets do not keep out all the noise and the workmen start early (but then if we want to see Havana restored to its former glory, they have to work). The breakfast was mainly mini crossants and cakes but enough to keep you going till lunch. The room had lovely high ceilings and traditional furniture, the hotel clean and and the bar seemed to be a favorite with locals too. Most of all I would like to thank the staff, though, for helping when my husband fell ill. We ended up staying an extra night and he became a minor celebrity due to all the fuss that was made over him.
