A great place to stay, especially for a large family or group
The first hotel we stayed in on arrival to Havana was Inglaterra, which was not much fun. After travelling around the entire island, we returned to Havana and managed to get a room in the COnvento de Santa Clara. Three of us were put into a huge room that was meant for groups of students, however our stay was nonetheless amazing. The staff are incredibly friendly despite the fact that I did not speak Spanish with much confidence at that point. Breakfast is decent, good for a hungry stomach as they are rather generous.
My only complaint is that we were told that we could get in to the hotel at anytime and that they leave one of the many doors open. So...I returned at about 10.30pm (not that late by Cuban standards!) and found all the doors closed and had to ask the police for help.
Other than that, a lovely place and a really good way to finish my not so restfull holiday on the best island, Cuba
for me the best and cheaper in cuba!!!!
I turned up at Havana Airport from Holguin with my family and two friends. I had read about Convento Santa Clara in a guidebook and decided to give it a go. All I can say is what an excellent decision I made. Atmospheric, friendly, welcoming, located in the heart of the old city close to many of the best known places in Havana you won't go wrong. Accomodation is spacious, safe and comfortable.
I stayed in a double room with a friend-the room was actually one of the "cell" the nuns lived in. The grounds are beautiful w/ a lovely garden. Security is good but you are unable to bring any Cuban friends you make inside. Depending on whether there are dorms of students, it is relatively quiet. No need for A/C if you go in spring or winter. Breakfast is served & the staff are very friendly & accomodating. It helps to speak a little Spanish.
