“Fantastic Apartment, fantastic hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

Located in a large airy apartment on the 3rd floor so be prepared for a hike up the stairs. The hosts have excellent English, and are very welcoming, including talking you through the finer points of Havana, life transport and sightseeing. Breakfast as always in Cuba was large and well served in the balcony.

It is worth saying that Mylena and Otto really went the extra mile. They gave us free tea and toast on the morning of the day we left even though we had run out of money, they allowed us to leave out bags in the room after we had checked out so we could go and enjoy our last day of holiday. Then on our return we were given more tea and allowed to use the shower before going to the airport. Then as a parting gift we were given a Che 3peso coin as a memento.

Lovely people, good location and worth every penny

We stayed with Mylena and Otto for 3 nights. After making the booking in the internet we received an email from Otto providing information on the way to their place, together some tips on Havana, which was very kind and helpful because we knew that somebody is expecting us (in contrary to some bookings that we could hardly hear from the host).

We arrived after dark and could not find the place, Otto was so kind to go down to meet us. When we left at 4am, Otto got up to check if we were ok and made us some tea. Mylena could even remember our choices on egg and got us some tea for the breakfast!

Re the room, we had the room connects to the balcony, the room was clean and spacious. For the bathroom, it was spotless! I am not used to a share bathroom but I have to say it was so clean that made me feel very ok.

I would recommend the casa without hesitation. And I definitely would like to stay here again.

Mylena and Otto are great hosts. Their local knowledge is useful and they will tell you the best and cheapest ways to get to central Havana. For a small charge, Mylena will prepare breakfast (plenty of fruit, coffee and bread) to set you up for the day. You can have breakfast on the balcony. The apartment is located in the quieter suburbs, but is easily reached by foot (40min stroll) or taxi from the centre. The bedroom was clean and secure with fan and air-con.

Helpful and welcoming even with our 3 AM arrival; very good English and patient with our limited Spanish. Smallish but adequate room. Good location. Fantastic breakfast on the patio. Hard to ask for much more!

We stayed here at the start of our trip, and when we called to reserve for our last night, they were booked. Otto helped us arrange to stay with his neighbor (see Casa Petronila) who is Spanish-only, but who we also liked very much.

Staying in Havana with hosts Mylena and Otto was an amazing experience. The location was fantastic and easy to get around, we felt all the time even when walking around at night. Mylena and Otto took the time out to show us a map and help us out with any queries we had, plus their breakfasts were the best we had on our whole trip (Coffee was the BEST). If you want to stay in a hassle free Casa and enjoy your stay in Havana, i would recommend this place! 10/10.

I've traveled the world, but only visited Havana for the first time a year and a half ago. I stayed with Mylena and Otto because reviewers on another major hostel booking website ranked them #1 in all of the city. They were right. I had such a good time during my stay, that I booked with them this past year during a return visit to Cuba.

Mylena and Otto are wonderful people and true ambassadors for their city. They are friendly, helpful and sincerely want their guests to have the best possible stay in Havana. The apartment is perfect - clean, safe and central to the many things to see in the city. It is located in the Vedado district, a beautiful mansion-filled neighbourhood reminiscent of the old splendor of the city. I'd argue that Vedado is the true center of Havana as it is situated between many of the cultural attractions outside of the tourist-dominated district of La Habana Viejo (or Old Havana which you can still visit in a 25 minute walk or inexpensive taxi ride).

I plan to visit Cuba again and when I do, I will also look forward to staying my friends Mylena and Otto. I recommend you do the same.

Room Tip: The larger bedroom has access to a private terrace with amazing sunsets over Vedado!

The owners of the house were so welcoming, it felt like we’d known them all our lives. Mylana is a natural born host and mother. She looked after us to no end when we needed her and left us to our own devices when we didn't. When she wasn't sure or felt she wasn't speaking good enough english (Mylana speaks very good english) for us to understand she called on her husband Otto who was equally as lovely. Our luggage was lost and they both went out of their way to help us, calling the air line continuously and doing an excellent job in fighting our corner. Mylana let us accompany her shopping one day so we got the inside scoop on Havana the way locals do it, so we knew where to go, how to get there and how much things ‘should’ cost. Mylana & Otto stayed in touch during our stay in Cuba (as they chased our luggage for us for almost 1 month whilst we we traveled around enjoying Cuba) and it was them we went back to for info on coach trips, accommodation in other areas etc (a massive help considering the internet isn’t easily accessible in Cuba and was not accessible for half the time we were in Havana). For a first time in Cuba, I would definitely recommend staying here as you just cant go wrong with these two on your side. The house and rooms are immaculately clean, lovely, airy and bright as the apartment is on the top floor with a pretty balcony area for lounging.

The apartment is not directly in the centre of Havana, it is in a lovely clean neighbourhood just on the out skirts, with a quaint little fruit and veg market, corner shop, kids playground, restaurants, bus stops and a main road where you can catch one of the old quaint cuban car taxi's into Havana central for 20CUP (£0.47p) per person, all these amineties are within 5mins walking distance. There was also a cinema, art gallery, supermarket, cash machine, banks & money exchange all within 10mins walking distance.

If we ever visit Havana again, we would ONLY stay with Mylena & Otto

Room Tip: Book early & also call them if they appear booked on a web site, incase they've had a last m...
