“Fantastic food, atmosphere and host”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

My friend and I ate here on the last night of our 8 day trip in Havana and absolutely adored this paladar. The food was tasty and wonderful, the atmosphere is beautiful (it is only 4 or 5 tables on the balcony of an 11th floor apartment overlooking the Malecon on all sides), but most special was the owner Jonathan and his staff. They were the loveliest of people and made us feel so special. It is so important to support paladares in Havana and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this one.

“Best food in Havana”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2012

Castas Y Tal is located on the 11th floor of a residential apartment block about a 5 minute walk from El Presidente Hotel. Don't look for any signs or advertising to direct you to it, you won't find any. It is simply a family apartment. Ask the locals if you fan't find it. Cubans are friendly and helpful.
There is a warm welcome from the owners on arrival. They were very busy as they were expecting a large group to arrive shortly but I got full attention.
There is a lovely view from the apartment and I was lucky enough to be there to see a great sunset over the Malecon.
The food is fresh and tasty. There is a great selection from lobster to chicken. The cream soup is to die for.
Everything was lovely, the family was friendly and welcoming (little Elia kept me company for ages!), the views are spectacular and the food was beautiful...well worth the trip.

“A relaxing haven for gay & gay-friendly travellers in Havana.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2012

Less than 5 mins from the President hotel Don't be put off by the street and the building!! Just take the right hand lift to the 11th floor. Knock on the right hand door and enter a haven that you would never dream is there. Great personal service awaits. Start with a delicious Mojito. The lobster is a must - you get 2!! Great view of the city. I went 3 times in a week!!

“Nice little lunch spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2012

We dropped by this place on the recommendation of our local pedi-cab driver for lunch. One dish (the grilled fish) was very tasty and the rest of it was alright, probably slightly above average for Cuban food. The restaurant itself (upstairs, and open to the street) was quite pleasant, especially if you get seats overlooking the street. The restaurant seems to be trying to offer an "asian" inspired aspect to the menu. The only thing was it was totally empty except for us and it was prime lunch time. A couple musicians came up and played for us, they were quite good but we have a feeling they were outside on the street waiting to come up to the restaurant to play whenever they saw customers go up to the restaurant. It did get a little uncomfortable with too much attention with two servers, a bar man and two musicians all waiting on just the two of us in the entire restaurant.
