“Saved by Isel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Beautiful little casa with friendly, inviting hostesses... we were in Havana just as high season began and our hotel suddenly went from 80 cuc per night to 145 cuc (Hostel Valancia)!! The night doorman at our hotel kindly introduced us to Isel and we couldn't have been happier; lovely cheerful little room with our own bathroom and balcony, great breakfast for 5 cuc per day that kept us full till lunch and a beautiful little blind dog to pet :-) Isel's English is enough to get by and as shes incredibly flamboyant she managed to vonvey everything with little skits! Would definetly stay there again, 10 out of 10.

If you want to stay in the heart of Habana Vieja - the best part of town to be in when visiting Havana - opt for this welcoming casa apartment bang in the middle of the district. It's small - only one guest room and no seperate entrance - but you don't feel like you are intruding despite the inevitability of seeing quite a lot of the owners. Normally in a casa you get your own eating area but it doesn't matter that you don't here - although Isel and the group of friends who help her run the place are around a lot they aren't overly intrusive and they give you enough space. The guest room has it's own balcony where you can watch Havana life go by - an invaluable asset - as is equipped with all the necessaries, including good air conditioning and a fridge (both good assets in hot Havana!) Isel is a great host - friendly, intelligent and welcoming, if a little pushy at times when it comes to giving advice! Spoken Spanish on your part is a good idea - as in all of Cuba - but there's a good standard of English and Italian spoken by Isel and her friends as well. This is definately better then a lot of the casas in Habana Vieja, and don't worry about noise due to the location: most of Havana is surprisingly quiet by midnight and in any case the room is very well soundproofed.

Being on the corner is a great way to see the street and the view from Isel`s is great. In the daytime you can see and hear a snapshot of Cuban society and the night is quiet. Isel is a kind host and tries her hardest. The room was clean and the shower was good.....a welcome delight after a couple of days on the road.
If you do not speak Spanish it might be a little difficult and make sure not to forget anything in the room as there might be a problem. Overall it is worth a try!

A wonderful, friendly and entertaining host in Isel. Fantastic location just off Obispo in Havana Vieja. We didn't eat any evening meals here, but breakfast was outstanding in size and quality. Very comfortable bedroom with fridge and air conditioning, and balcony to observe Cuban life from. Brilliant way to end our holiday in Cuba. Thankyou again to the hostess!

Here is your new home in Old Havana. Isel and Ileana will welcome you to their beautifully decorated casa in a perfect location--busy in the day, quiet at night. This casa was recently and fully renovated--new bathroom, plenty of hot water, antique furniture, newly painted in cheerful colours...you won't see a place this well-appointed and this clean anywhere else in Havana, including in the expensive hotels. The room has two doors to a wrap-around balcony with terra-cotta tile floor. You will feel treated. I also recommend eating breakfast and dinner there--it's better than the restaurants by far, even the fancy ones (don't decide to try them all out like we did--just stick with Ileana's delicious and very fresh authentic gourmet Cuban cooking). Both ladies speak English quite well and can help with transportation and other advice for exploring the city. A day-trip to the beach is also recommended. Don't pass this one up.

This is the casa particular experience you are looking for: lovely wrap around balcony, super high ceilings, warm bright colours on the walls, antiques and the very attentive, very conscientious, very fun-loving hostesses. It is a gay-friendly casa: they are open-minded, tranquil people who like to laugh. The food is incredible. Eat breakfast and dinner there if you are interested in fresh, *real* Cuban cuisine, better and more varied than the expensive hotel restaurants. They offer really good advice on taxis, directions, buses, day trips to the beach, etc., and they are super friendly and are always interested to hear about your day's adventure.

As Isel would say..."Listen to me..."
We were a bit dubious about staying in a casa but in hindsight our holiday to Havana would not have been nearly as good if we had not started with 3 nights at Isel's. Isel and Ilianne are wonderful woman who made us feel so totally welcome, from the first email we sent them. I love their Casa, it really is in the very best location for exploring Havana by foot, and it gives you a total feel for the real old town Havana, it's right there on the doorstep. If you want a gay friendly and/or women friendly place run by amazing warm and funny women, stay here. I will definitely stay there again as soon as i make it back to Havana...soon hopefully.
