Once you accept that this is a boutique hotel in an old building run by the government in a communist state the Florida is excellent. Nothing should surprise, but we found it very well positioned in the centre of the unrestored part of Old Havana, in a beautiful old building, spacious and moderately clean, with effective and quiet air conditioning in our rooms ( but not most of the public areas) comfortable beds, and an efficient staff.
It was certainly quiet while we were there, although it was the low season, and you really felt it could be your own home! Our two rooms were on the top floor which in the old house would have been the family's bedroom floor. On that floor rooms went off a wide internal balcony furnished with comfortable settees. The whole place was so quiet and elegant that the part of the continuous balcony outside the rooms was like your own personal lounge area. We were told the floor below which had a much narrower internal balcony would have been the servants' quarters in the original house. I'm not sure how spacious those rooms would have been!
There is a travel desk in the hotel run very efficiently by a staff member from a local tourist company. She arranged two personal tours for our party of three with a wonderful English speaking guide. We found that a great plus in a country where English is not widely spoken. There is a money exchange virtually across the street, again a great bonus.
Stay here and you are in for a great experience.
