We spent six wonderful nights at the Hotel Florida in Havana. The hotel is located right in the centre of Old Havana and is convenient close to everything (money exchange, supermarket, restaurants, all four plazas in Old Havana, bars, etc.) The ice cream parlour across the street was fantastic, especially for my infant son. Our room was lovely. Beautiful, marble floors, very high ceilings (at least 25 feet), comfortable beds and a lovely bath with hot water. I was a bit worried about the noise as our room faced the street but the balcony doors and shutters suppressed most of the noise. The tourist officer who helps guests was a lovely women who hooked us up with a fantastic tour guide named Mirval who took us on a tour of Havana. A few comments: there is an old and new wing at the hotel and I recommend staying in the old wing. I peeked in on a few rooms in the new wing and I found them dark and damp. The hotel's breakfast was quite nice but the food quality for the lunch and supper menu was not that great. Hailing taxis should always be done in advance as the hotel's front entrance is on a pedestrian street. Taxis pull up around the corner. I'd definitely recommend Hotel Florida to anyone who wants to get an authentic taste of Havana's glorious past.
