i don't no how to start ,wow.just disaster hotel in cuba i would say, don't waste your time and money to go there ,never ever.
we arrived ther at sep 10 and when we got there we thought the hotel is closed lol.we got our room and we had to take stairs.just imagine how is going to be to carry suitcase because elevator was not working.we open our room and we were just shocked i thought i'm in swimming pool.lot of water in the room .we had to go down and wait for 3 hours to our room get clean and praper for little rest but when we got to the room we find ourself in the zoo.we find ants ,fly,mosquto....what a nightmare.
the food was ok.not much drink just beer and rum.sometime they serve tequila.
beach was quiet amazing and beatiful.we had blast at the beach ,beach volyball and banana boat and any kind of activity.lot of torist and local were there.but when it comes to hotel i really dont want to think about it.if the hotel was good i would never go anywhere else .

We have stayed in other hotels in Cuba and this by far was the worst ever. We stayed there because of wanting to meet up with a friend. What a disaster!! I was accosted by a hooker at 11PM at night when we arrived. That should have told me how the stay was going to proceed. When i got to see the hotel, i did not realize that there were so many stairs to get into the hotel with our bags ( and no porters at all anywhere). We were given a room and when we awoke in the morning, the room was crawling with ants. And of course we had not packed our bug spray (as if we thought we needed it). The maid sprayed the room and the next night we got very large cockroaches (maybe Palmetto bugs). For 3 days we tried to get a TV remote , the front desk told us that there were only 3 for the whole hotel, as if!!! We were so upset with this hotel, i asked the tour rep to let us go home early and he told us we could not get out of our contract, we had to stay. The food as awful! ThankGod for Jello and Rice pudding!!
I finally talked to the Director of Public Relations, and she told us she would get us into a different room. We were given a huge room on the 5 floor with the most enormous balcony. What a view. We had a few ants, but nothing serious. We had 2 neighbours (older single men) from our country next door who managed to get 2 very young girls, maybe 17 or 18 yrs old , to come and stay for the whole time we were at this hotel. What a racket they made!!!
Never Again, we are going back to our favorite hotel outside of Santiago De Cuba. The Los Corales. What a difference.

Arriving at the hotel at 9.30 pm after a 3hr bus ride from Varadero including a stop at another resort! After checking in,it was to late to get even a sandwich? Got to the room,No water? No shower? No toilet?? Next day, same situation??Rent a car, visit friends for 2 days.Return to no elevator,no water for 3 days, food a lot to leave to the imagination...Lousy....???leave to revisit friends, who treated me better than this hotel!!Return to hotel to return the rented car, wanting to re rent the vehicle only to be told they could not??And could not get any for the remainder of the week???Had to stay at this so called hotel for 7 hellish days till the package deal expired! To describe will take to long, just imagine 5 day's of no water ,no elevator (i was on the 5th floor)( 100 steps)5 /6 times a day or more.No sheets or towel change the whole stay??Having to get pool water to flush the toilet???We ate on thin plastic plates for 4 day's?? The hotel still booked people in the hotel despite the problems and the locals that flood this hotel is amazing, not a place for tourist!! The beach is a dumping ground for cans and bottles, even in the water and the OIL slicks?? I was there fro July 27th to Aug 10th and rates as the worst i have ever been to!! I have been to Cuba 9 times and love the people. But I will never return to Hotel Tropicoco!! Gerry.M.Buckhorn,Ontario,Canada.

I was at the TROPICOCO from July 20 to July 27 and i just liked it!
The hotel is not fancy but was very convenient for me and clean... The elevator worked well while i was there;i was on the 5th floor and i never waited more than 2 minutes for it and never took the stairs.
The main problem here is that people want to pay less or save money and have luxurious service. FANCY LIFE STYLE HAS A FANCY PRICE (just look for the stars).
when i got there i knew already that it was a 2 star hotel and to be honest i was ready for the worse because of the reviews. I DID NOT SEE IT and I HAD MONEY FOR THE TRIP ! What i could not get at the hotel i use to get outside (e.g nice drinks and snacks).
I took lots of gifts for the employees and i tipped them SO WELL, maybe because of that i did not see any rudeness...But hey!! people should know that the basic daily amount to tip a maid is 2 dolares (EVERYWHERE) and should tip the staff from the bars and restaurants.
For those who complained about that 2 star hotel PLEASE try to go to one close by in the city where they live and compare with the service that TROPICOCO provide! for sure they will pay more and will not get anything free!
There are so many hotels in Havana if you are picky and ready to spend and get nice service try hotel MELIA COHIBA,hotel AMBOS MUNDOS, hotel TELEGRAFO or hotel OCIDENTAL MIRAMAR...compare the prices and enjoy your trip!

Let me start off with a warning. If after you read this review you still decide to go to the Tropicoco, THEN YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU GET!

My friend and I just returned from Havana, Cuba where we stayed at the Hotel Tropicoco. I will detail our experience and trust me, we were not the only people that felt the horror of this place.
- We arrive at the airport in Havana where we are kept waiting for two and a half hours for our shuttle bus to take us to our resort. After it became dark and there was no bus to be found, and our Holasun tour person had no clue where the bus was or if it will be coming, yet he advisors everyone there that if they take a taxi it's at their own risk. Finally 3 of us get together and risk the taxi ride to the resort.
- We get to this resort and are we ever shocked. It looks like a nightmare. The road is pitch black and there are hookers standing in the lobby of this place. My friend starts to go in denial staying this can't be it we must be in the wrong place.
- To our regret the hotel receptionist confirms that this is the right place, so we have no other choice.
- We head to the buffet, wow what a piece of [--]. I have never been to prison, but something in me tells me the food there could not be much worse.
- We get to the room, ok it's not the hilton but at lease it has a safe to store our valueables.
- Turns out the the AC unit is the wall is so loud it could wake up the dead, and that's if you are lucky enough to have it working when you switch it on.
- ok we decide we are here lets make the best out of this, now keep in mind i know it is a 2 star and 3 years ago i went to a 4 star in varadero, so i'm thinking how bad could it be. also keep in mind i have nothing to gain by writing this review, i would just like anybody who is thinking about going here to have a true walk through experience so they don't waste thier money, time and god forbid put there family through this nightmare. I kept telling my friend how bad i felt for the families that came here with their kids.
- let me try to compress this otherwise it will turn into a book.
- There was no hot water for a shower
- More than 4 times the power stoped working.
- The 2 elevators did not work most of the time.
- The beach was filled up with cuban people drinking havana club
- The food was so bad that we both lost weight, mostly from dehydration.
- There was no bottled water, at all.
- The beach had petrol clusters floating around in the water, from an oil spill, try getting that off of your skin
- Everybody is a pimp, from the chef to the bartender all offering you a chicita (girl). I have never been offer so many women, by such a variety of people in my life.
- Lots and i mean lots of old disgusting men with young women just walking around this hell hole.
- Major language barrier, most people who work here can't speak any english
- Phone in the room doesn't work most of the time, and when it does work it is in the middle of the night and it's someone calling the wrong number
- You have to beg for clean towels, or start dishing out some major pesos to even get a clean towel and some toliet paper.
- When the water stops working the whole place smells like a toliet that hasn't been flushed for weeks. oh the toliets down stairs don't have toliet paper or toliet seats.
- What ever you do, don't be as stupid as me and my friend and ignore the bad reviews of this resort. You will be very sorry if you go. I read all the reviews and thought to myself, HOW BAD COULD IT BE. Trust me it's BAD VERY BAD, and like i said if you decide to go you deserve what you get... There was even more bad things but i am getting tired or writing this review. I will never ever go to a 2 star anywhere. The goods things are that the cuban people in Havana are very friendly, the women are really beautiful and the weather is amazing, i love Cuba but i hate the Tropicoco.
