Let me start off with a warning. If after you read this review you still decide to go to the Tropicoco, THEN YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU GET!
My friend and I just returned from Havana, Cuba where we stayed at the Hotel Tropicoco. I will detail our experience and trust me, we were not the only people that felt the horror of this place.
- We arrive at the airport in Havana where we are kept waiting for two and a half hours for our shuttle bus to take us to our resort. After it became dark and there was no bus to be found, and our Holasun tour person had no clue where the bus was or if it will be coming, yet he advisors everyone there that if they take a taxi it's at their own risk. Finally 3 of us get together and risk the taxi ride to the resort.
- We get to this resort and are we ever shocked. It looks like a nightmare. The road is pitch black and there are hookers standing in the lobby of this place. My friend starts to go in denial staying this can't be it we must be in the wrong place.
- To our regret the hotel receptionist confirms that this is the right place, so we have no other choice.
- We head to the buffet, wow what a piece of [--]. I have never been to prison, but something in me tells me the food there could not be much worse.
- We get to the room, ok it's not the hilton but at lease it has a safe to store our valueables.
- Turns out the the AC unit is the wall is so loud it could wake up the dead, and that's if you are lucky enough to have it working when you switch it on.
- ok we decide we are here lets make the best out of this, now keep in mind i know it is a 2 star and 3 years ago i went to a 4 star in varadero, so i'm thinking how bad could it be. also keep in mind i have nothing to gain by writing this review, i would just like anybody who is thinking about going here to have a true walk through experience so they don't waste thier money, time and god forbid put there family through this nightmare. I kept telling my friend how bad i felt for the families that came here with their kids.
- let me try to compress this otherwise it will turn into a book.
- There was no hot water for a shower
- More than 4 times the power stoped working.
- The 2 elevators did not work most of the time.
- The beach was filled up with cuban people drinking havana club
- The food was so bad that we both lost weight, mostly from dehydration.
- There was no bottled water, at all.
- The beach had petrol clusters floating around in the water, from an oil spill, try getting that off of your skin
- Everybody is a pimp, from the chef to the bartender all offering you a chicita (girl). I have never been offer so many women, by such a variety of people in my life.
- Lots and i mean lots of old disgusting men with young women just walking around this hell hole.
- Major language barrier, most people who work here can't speak any english
- Phone in the room doesn't work most of the time, and when it does work it is in the middle of the night and it's someone calling the wrong number
- You have to beg for clean towels, or start dishing out some major pesos to even get a clean towel and some toliet paper.
- When the water stops working the whole place smells like a toliet that hasn't been flushed for weeks. oh the toliets down stairs don't have toliet paper or toliet seats.
- What ever you do, don't be as stupid as me and my friend and ignore the bad reviews of this resort. You will be very sorry if you go. I read all the reviews and thought to myself, HOW BAD COULD IT BE. Trust me it's BAD VERY BAD, and like i said if you decide to go you deserve what you get... There was even more bad things but i am getting tired or writing this review. I will never ever go to a 2 star anywhere. The goods things are that the cuban people in Havana are very friendly, the women are really beautiful and the weather is amazing, i love Cuba but i hate the Tropicoco.
