The hotel claims to be a 3 star hotel, we wonder! The buffet breakfast is meager, tasteless and no variety as regards to food. The shower has to be the smallest I have seen in my life and if you weight around 200 lbs or more you are most likely not going to fit in.
Towels and bed sheets were not changed in the 4 days we stayed there.
The hotel may be in a good zone but it is lurked by vandals wanting to make their day off tourists, if I have to recommend this hotel I could but not as a 3-star hotel, it should degraded to a 1 star hotel, if at all

Stayed here in December. Found it very hard to find a room in the city, but this big hotel had space, and it was worth hunting for. Decent, clean, western class hotel. If you stay above the 9th floor you have amazing views. I think we paid about US$70 for a double. Very convenient for all the nightlife which is mostly in this area. FYI for those using this as as the night before their flight - if you have a late flight pop over to the Habana Libre and chill out before the flight with no hassle, and not over-expensive drink prices.

I stayed at St. Johns for 10 days recently December 25th - January 4th, 2004. the rooms are clean and the hot water worked in my room. there is a US$2.00 daily fee for use of the safe desposit in the room. the Hotel does not have an operable credit card machine , so all charges have to be paid for in cash.

Paper is a scarce commodity in cuba, so most public restrooms do not provide toilet paper. I would advise walking with an adequate supply of both toilet paper and tissues and basic medication such as asprin, panadol etc.

The hotel because of its proximty to night clubs, and vehicular traffic is very noisy so if you are seeking peace and quiet this is not the environment for you.

Hanava has lots of characer but it is a smokers paradise so be prepared to be surrounded by smoke on a 24 hour basis. despite these minor irritations I would recommend havana to anyone looking for a holiday experieece with a difference

St. John's is newly renovated, and I had a room on one of the top floors overlooking the Bay of Havana and downtown - the sunrise is stunning, and I found myself getting up early just to catch that. The service is excellent at the hotel - everybody is friendly and trying to help. The restaurant isn't the greatest, but you get a choice of eggs, sandwich etc. The nightlife is just around the corner - several clubs keeps the party going almost 24hrs. And Havana is great - I don't understand why the US keeps up the embargo against Cuba - it's a wonderful place.
