My Mom and I stayed here overnight as part of a tour of Havana. We were amazed how fast they checked in a full bus of people. We stayed on 3rd floor. Only 1 of the 2 elevator works, but you didn't wait long. The room was VERY musty/damp when we first opened door.. but once we opened windows it was fine. Beds very comfy. Hot water was no problem. Flushing was a bit of an adventure and a test of determination. My Mom was happy to have a rest before the "tropicana" show.. and I was having a great time hanging out the window looking around. We had both supper that night and breakfast there. Both we enjoyed. Lobby is nice, and also have nice place to sit outside. It is actually pretty close to the water and on a main street. Honestly! I was just so happy to spend the extra time in Havana that any hotel flaw was pretty unimportant. They have a pool. I wouldn't mind to stay there again, Transportation seemed pretty handy to get you closer to the tourist areas. BUT!!! ask for a corner room so you can get a good breeze going through. We thought the place was clean.. and I am sure the dampness just can't be avoided. Besides with as many storms as Cuba has been getting.. I am more than willing to cut them some slack. Oh.. and there is a school right next to it .. so anyone wanting to give away things to the children would find that pretty handy. The area was a bit noisy at night due to traffic. Keep in mind this is a older hotel in a struggling country.

Mt wife and I stayed at this hotel for one night as part of a trip to Havana.
Check-in was reasonable.
The corridor carpet, at least on floor three, was threadbare which didn't bode well for the room itself.
However, the room was spacious, reasonably furnished although it had a musky, damp smell to it.
The shower, despite our best efforts, dripped for the duration of our stay and by 3am had become almost torturous.
We were forced to wrap a towel around the shower head which was hardly ideal.
The evening buffet meal resulted in a 30 minute queue for a vacant table and once in the food, even by Cuban standards, was terrible.
The following morning's breakfast was easier as we managed to get seated immediately but then had a five minute wait for fruit juice glasses, a further 10 minute wait for cutlery and another five minute wait for coffee cups, one of which arrived dirty.
All in all a poor experience despite the best efforts of the hard-pressed, seemingly ever cheerful, staff.

  • Liked — Friendly staff
  • Disliked — Poor food, disorganised restaurant and dripping shower.

If you know going into Cuba that luxury is really not part of the agenda...then you will be fine. Cuba is amazing on so many levels, like starting with the people. The Presidente had the best staff. They were so friendly and helpful. When they found out we were American from New york, our stock went up with them. The hotel was very clean, but.. the food was very bad, and like I said the staff was just the best. You can take a 5 minute, 5.00 peso ride into Havana. Or you can jump on the tour bus right outside the hotel for 5.00 per person from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. the bus takes you all over Havana, you get off and on as much as you like, just keep your ticket and you can ride all day!!! (double decker open top bus) Havan is everything you see in pictures, the old cars are all over the place...The deisel smell is a little rough. It was well worth the bad meals and deisel smells. I would keep going back. Just Amazing!

We stayed in Hotel Presidente for one night in January, 2008. We ended up there because when we arrived at our original hotel, Los Frailes, they didn't have a room for us. Los Frailes paid for our stay and the cab ride over to Hotel Presidente.
Presidente is in New Havana, and the town doesn't have any of the charm of Old Havana. There is very little to do or see, and is very quiet. The hotel itself is large and old, and we had a very small room. The pool area was nice, and it was where we spent the day. There was a large breakfast buffet, and a complimentary welcome drink. There was a tv in the room, however it didn't get any channels. Fine with me, since I didn't go there to sit in my room and watch tv.
Thankfully, Los Frailes called us at the hotel and told us that they had a room available, so after one night at the Presidente, we got a cab back to Old Havana and stayed at Los Frailes, which we enjoyed much more.
Presidente is good if you aren't into checking out your surroundings. Old Havana has a lot more culture, excitement, and things to do within walking distance. I also prefer to stay in smaller hotels rather than large places like Presidente.

this supposedly four star hotel has a lot of handicaps: quite distant from the city center, although some hotels can be even farther (playa district), an old building which obviously has not been rehabilitated (one elevator only is working, everything seems out of age), food served at the buffet restaurant is edible ,but not good.We tried the other hotel restaurant , where the menu offers what looks like a better cuisine ,it was a mistake, the lobster was overcooked ...but we are in Havana, and everything is probably like that...
