Keep in mind that I usually stay in hostels, so I'm easily impressed by a hotel. My family and I stayed at Hotel Plaza as part of a very affordable package vacation. You can't beat the breakfast room--outdoors on the rooftop overlooking the city! (there's also an indoor space but who wants that?) With such an amazing start to each day, it was hard not to have a great time.
The location was great. Easy walking distance to the opera house, El Malecon, Havana Vieja. Rooms were a little threadbare but comfortable enough. A safe was provided for each room, which gave us a lot of piece of mind. The service was friendly and we had no problems with any of the facilities.
We talked with a man from the Bahamas one morning at breakfast and we agreed that if people go in expecting the standards of a big American chain hotel, they will be disappointed. But otherwise, Hotel Plaza is perfectly acceptable.
