I stayed at this hotel 2 times 11/05 and 6/06 so please forgive me for blending my experience into one review. I'm an American nurse so I'm able to travel to Cuba under strict guidelines. 11/05 was not as hot so the mold/mildew was not as noticable. 11/05 was my 1st trip to Cuba so I could only compare with other caribbean destinations. By the next trip I quickly realized that Cuba was in a league all it's own. Was able to get a hot shower on both trips consistently. I enjoyed the breakfast ritual on the rooftop. Fresh food items are the best and the cafe con leche was good. Overall, the staff was friendly and helpful, you're always going to find 1 or 2 that don't meet your expectations.
On the 6/06 trip, of course it was much hotter so the mold/mildew was everywhere. I asked to change rooms it was so bad. The 2nd room was worse and I could hardly sleep. The rooms on the 2nd floor were really bad. The beds were small and hard, sank in the middle. Did not have the priviledge of seeing any bugs. Doors were hard to open/close because the wood expands/contracts with the heat.
Overall, the 6/06 trip was not as good as the 11/05 trip. Just watch the checkout bill but you should do that anywhere you stay. We would buy water/snacks at the local store to avoid using too much of the hotel stuff. Bring snacks with you. and toilet paper. Location is excellent of course.

The staff here was very friendly. I enjoyed staying here. I remember eating breakfast on the balcony overviewing the city of Havana Centro. I will go back someday. It is a great hotel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My girlfriend and I spent one night at this hotel. We previously spent some nights at the Deauville and wanted something better (not that the Deauville was bad), so we moved to the Plaza: we were wrong! It's a terrible one star boardinghouse for the European standards. It costed almost twice the Deauville.
Although the hotel has a charming entrance and is very well located, the room we were given was horrible. It was a very small room, there was no space around the queen size bed (and we booked a double room!!) and the bathroom was unacceptable, unclean and there were power wires laying on the sink (see pictures!)! We had to cover the wires with one of the two towels we were given. There was a medium size TV with satellite channels from all over the world and a small refrigerator with not expensive sodas, beers and water.
It was too late to argue at the reception or ask for the manager so we spent the night.

At least breakfast was ok. Served on the top of the building, non air conditioned room, breakfast comes with tropical fruits, nice home made croissants, tortillas.
Staff was so and so.

The area is very nice, you see the park and the Capitolio, but apart from that, please, go somewhere else, this was probably the worst slum where I have ever slept.

I was recently a guest at this hotel for one week and I have some
complaints. THe staff, especially the women were very rude to me, would smile at them and they would just give me dirty looks. I would request a napkin and they would decline and say that there were no more napkins. The room was dirty and the towels wrecked of bleach and an unpleasant odor. Overall, my stay there was unpleasant and I regret spending one cent at this establishment. There was one particular guard who was quite rude to me and my guests. He wouldn't even open the door
for me and gave me dirty looks. I would hope their staff be more
courteous in the future because this type of treatment is unexcusable. Even the airline CUBANA was rude and ridiculous, they charged $2.00 for a tiny amount of beverage with ice which should be complimentary. That's another thing, my room had some water and juice in the fridge and they charged me for the water when it should have been complimentary. THIS hotel PLAZA sucks in customer service and their work ethic is very, very poor and disgusting. I will not return to your hotel and will make sure to let others know of your awful hospitality. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL, SAVE YOUR MONEY!
