Parque Central
My wife and I stayed at the Parque Central for 8 nights in August 2007, as part of our honeymoon.
The hotel is situated in Havana Vieja (old Havana) and the location is literally the best in Havana. You can walk to most sights and to the coastal road (Malecon) in 10-15 minutes, and there are numerous good bars & restaurants very close (our favorite was El Floridita!).
Hotel premises
The hotel is housed in an old building on Parque Central. Some rooms have a wonderful view to the Capitol building, but unfortunately ours didn’t.
It is generally very well kept, and the rooms are up to high standards. Our bed was huge and very comfortable. As expected in Cuba there were small issues of maintenance, such as an electricity plug with exposed wires hanging out of the bathroom wall… but nothing too important.
Air condition worked great. Minibar is extremely expensive, but across the road there is a small shop where you can buy water, etc about 70% cheaper.
Be sure to ask for a room as high as possible to avoid the constant traffic noise and pollution. Also try to avoid any rooms facing the back, as there is construction work on the new Parque Central Hotel at the back, and it is very noisy.
Food, etc
Breakfast is absolutely top notch. A full buffet with everything anyone could desire.
The restaurants are good - food in the whole of Cuba is not exactly haute cuisine - but in the hotel’s restaurants you an always find something good to eat for lunch & dinner. The lobster at the barbecue restaurant by the pool was wonderful.
The lobby bar is very pleasant, ant the drinks are very good. Service is awful (I think I am not the first to point this out), delivery of a simple coffee or drink takes ages and ages, and the waiters need constant reminding. We almost cancelled our order a couple of times.
Pool
The rooftop pool was wonderful. Clean and large enough, it was our cool oasis after a hot day walking around Havana.
Staff
The staff are wonderful, always smiling and helpful. Housekeeping is also very good, and any extra requests we had were met immediately. The room was kept very clean, and we always got thank you notes from the cleaning staff when we left small gifts for them.
The concierges are very knowledgeable and helpful and they always have a good idea to propose.
One small complaint is that although we were honeymooners, and stayed at the hotel for 8 days, we received absolutely no extra benefits. Upon leaving we asked for a free late checkout at 18:00 and it was not granted (we just got a 50% discount on the extra cost). I just mention it as a matter of principle.
I would definitely recommend this hotel, you can’t go wrong!
Will definitely return if we are lucky enough to visit Havana again…

Dear Trip Advisor user, member and reviewer,
First of all thank you for the time and effort you took to write such an extensive review. As always, it is nice to hear what our guests think of our hotel.
In general you refer to us a “ top choice” and your review is overall positive. However, reading between the lines, I’ve spotted some details which requires some feedback from my side. So please allow me to comment on some points:
1.As expected in Cuba there were small issues of maintenance, such as an electricity plug with exposed wires hanging out of the bathroom wall… but nothing too important.
Well, indeed you might expect some issues in Cuba, but I would say that an electricity plug hanging out of the wall is absolutely not acceptable in a hotel of our standard. Quite obviously a failure of the housekeeping department, which should report those things to maintenance and place the room out of order until the issue is fixed. So hereby I offer you my apologies.
2.Minibar is extremely expensive, but across the road there is a small shop where you can buy water, etc about 70% cheaper.
OK, I am willing to agree with you that the shop on the corner is cheaper than the minibar, but then again, one should realize that the shop on the corner doesn’t have the same overhead charges as we do. Nevertheless I am willing to analize this comment with our Food and Beverage manager and see if we can slightly moderate the prizes of the minibar, since this is a returning comment.
3.Also try to avoid any rooms facing the back, as there is construction work on the new Parque Central Hotel at the back, and it is very noisy.
You are right: We are working on our new annex of 150 rooms extra, which we plan to open in spring 2008. As mentioned in previous comments on reviews, we always make sure to first use the rooms on the other sides of the hotel, but when we have high occupancies, such as in August, we can’t guarantee. Does not take away the fact that your observation is valid.
4.The lobby bar is very pleasant, ant the drinks are very good. Service is awful (I think I am not the first to point this out), delivery of a simple coffee or drink takes ages and ages, and the waiters need constant reminding. We almost cancelled our order a couple of times.
Well…what to add to this? Rest assured this is only incidentally. It has our constant attention, but as you already said, indeed you are not the first one to comment on this.
5.One small complaint is that although we were honeymooners, and stayed at the hotel for 8 days, we received absolutely no extra benefits. Upon leaving we asked for a free late checkout at 18:00 and it was not granted (we just got a 50% discount on the extra cost
OK, this is somewhat puzzling to me. I have tried to retrieve your reservation, but with so little details it’s a bit difficult. Anyhow, in my contracts with the greek touroperators, I don’t have anything contracted for honeymooners. Therefor I doubt that your reservation mentioned anything re. honeymooners. Rest assured that if we would have been advised by the touroperator that you were on your honeymoon, you would definitely have received all the special attentions, incl. the late check-out. We take always special care of honeymooners, knowing how important a honeymoon is for the newly wed. So please accept my apologies.
Well, I trust that at least I have cleared things up a little and would like to to thank you once again for your most positive review.
Hospitable Regards,
NH Parque Central
