We stayed 3 nights 10th -12th June in the Parque before 11 nights in the Iberostar Varadero (see seperate Review)

The rating this hotel gets is well worth it and compares well to 4/5 * hotels elswhere in the world

The hotel is clean with great rooms and very cool and well kept communal areas. The staff are excellent and always willing to help, talk or give you advice.

We only ate breakfast in the hotel which was one of the best and most varied buffets we have seen anywhere in the world(and we have seen a few) other guests rated the other resteraunts very highly.

The hotel is ideal for exploring Havana with its north central location all major sites are within easy walking distance.

The rooftop pool and bar are a great way to wind down after a hot day exploring.

We explored Havana with a guide we booked via trip advisor and Jorge is probably the best money I have ever spent on holiday He is awesome his knowledge and passion about Cuba is incredible and yes he does know where Fidel lives. If you want more information on how to contact Jorge or how to get the most out of a day or two with him please Email me.

The only downside of the Hotel was the view, we booked a city view and I suppose the building site next door is part of the city, and yes we did request a move of room but were told not possible very politely (even though the hotel was not full) It is difficult to argue when the staff are so friendly.

I can recommend the Parque Central to anyone who wants a high quality hotel as a base to explore the exciting city of Havana

Dear Trip advisor user and Reviewer,

Thank you very much for your most positive review. I am pleased to see that you had a pleasant stay with us. Just to get back to your only minor comment:

The only downside of the Hotel was the view, we booked a city view and I suppose the building site next door is part of the city, and yes we did request a move of room but were told not possible very politely (even though the hotel was not full) It is difficult to argue when the staff are so friendly.

Out of curiousity (which I know killed the cat), I checked my booking position. On June 11th, I had 195 rooms occupied and on june 12th, I had 223 rooms occupied. Adding to that the fact that we have approx 38 rooms in maintenance, (to be prepared again for the high season), indeed the hotel was quite full and most possibly all rooms facing the Parque and Prado, were already occupied, since we give priority to these rooms.

I trust this takes your doubts away, and for all other users and reviewers, I suggest you see some previous reviews in which I explain this issue as well.

Hospitable Regards,
NH Parque Central

Parque Central really is a superb hotel situated in an eccentric, lively and energetic city. The hotel is in a truly beautiful location, overlooking the greenery outside and placed in the centre of one of the liveliest cities on earth. Thus, Parque Central acts your retreat from the magnificent city that is Havana. As you step out of the hot humid air of the city and into the cool refreshing air of the luxurious hotel lobby you can physically feel yourself slowly relax. Yet, the luxury does not stop there. With a rooftop swimming pool and a secluded jacuzzi, located in a turret, Parque Central provides all the amenities that you would expect from a five-star hotel.

Overall, fantastic. The rooms are splendid, the staff are kind at all times, the location is unprecedented, the amenities are of the highest standard. Parque Central is undoubtedly is the place to be.

Having read various reviews on this site I was expecting a good hotel by "western"standards and an excellent hotel by Cuban standards and we were not disappointed.
We had 4 nights in Havana before 10 nights in Jibacoa for our honeymoon. Our time in Havana was spent sightseeing (as is most peoples time!) and we did manage to fit in quite a lot in the 3 full days we were there. Having a good base that gave us easy access to the areas around Plaza de Armas and the Capitolio building meant that we had access to all the main sites and we suplimented this with a bus tour for 3/4 hours one afternoon. Havana is an amazing experience but 4 days was enough for both of us!
Now to the hotel! It had everything you would expect of a good city centre hotel and we could not fault anything. The breakfast was good and plentiful and the food available in the foyer bar did not disapoint. The only slight criticism was the blandness of the food in the Italian restaurant on our first night, but you get bland Italian food all over the world!! The maids were excellent and we had no problems with our room which was large, air conditioned and comfortable (NB we had a room facing the inner atrium of the hotel and would suspect the outer rooms would get quite noisy).
Reference has been made in other reviews about the security in the hotel and having had an unpleasant experience with local "cigar" sellers the hotel security were fantastic and helped reassure my pregnant wife. Just another much needed service available at this hotel!
All in an excellent experience and if we were to return to Havana we would have no hesitation in using this hotel.

We booked our holiday with The Holiday Place which at the time was the best price out there, the flights and company were very good, quite a bit of leg room but eat before you get on the plane as the food is shocking I would not even feed it to my dog..

We stayed in Havana at the Parque Central for 3 nights which I would advise if you want to see the real Cuba. After looking around at the other hotels whilst in Havana this was with out a doubt the best choice. It was very clean, staff was very helpful and nice and the breakfast was very good with lots off choice. The pool was very good and the views of the city from the roof top were amazing. If you like adventure do not go on any of the paid trips use the holiday book to get some ideas and venture out its a lot cheaper and you can go at your own pace. The jazz club is Amazing 10 cuc for entry including 2 free drinks, just get in a cab and say jazz club about 2 cuc, best to go about 10 o’clock to get a seat it starts about 10.30 pm (the cabs with 5555 are the best and safest). Don’t get ripped of with the Floridita restaurant the food is very average and costs a fortune. The Tropicana night is also not worth the money and there is plenty more to do for a night out.

My sister and stayed in this hotel in late May. We spent 11 nights in La Habana in total, five at the Sol Melia and 6 nights at the Parque Central. As others have mentioned, most package holidays to Cuba only offer two or three nights in La Habana and the rest at Varadero. The latter is a very nice beach resort which I have visited for a day on a couple of occasions - but it could be anywhere. For my money, the real Cuba is La Habana and other less touristy towns - so, if you have the option, spend longer in the capital and less at the beach!

Anyway, the hotel. Firstly, I am very impressed that this hotel takes the time to respond individually and in detail to comments posted on this web site and Marjits is to be commended for doing so. Although I have visited Cuba many times on business, this was the first time I have stayed at the Parque and I was very favourably impressed. I assume we each had one of the refurbed rooms and both were of a very high standard, as was the cleaning and other services. What has to be borne in mind by visitors is that this is Cuba and certain services that we take for granted in the west, e.g. wi-fi and fast internet services and certain foods are simply not available there and it is unfair to blame any hotel for this. I have also read a couple of comments about the air conditioning - the reason that it can sometimes feel warm when returning to a room is that this is controlled via the card that it inserted to turn on the electricity in the room - so if it is really too warm for you, suggest that you ask for a second card and leave this in place when out of the room, so that the power and thus the air con remains on at all times.

I can also confirm that it is absolutely not the case that Cubans are banned from the public areas of hotels - I have several Cuban friends who visit me in this and other hotels and there is no problem with their gaining access. They are not allowed in rooms, but this is a government stipulation and again beyond the control of any hotel management. Slightly tongue in cheek, we did feel a bit 'under siege' by the roaming hotel band, who did seem to pop up within 5 minutes of taking a seat anywhere in the lobby to serenade us - even at 3 o'clock in the afternoon! That said, they were perfectly charming and a very talented troupe, but perhaps better suited to the evening ambience in the hotel?

Altogether, this hotel offers an excellent service and is perfectly situated for sightseeing in what is, for me, one of the world's great capital cities!

Dear Trip advisor user and reviewer,

Thank you very much for the time you took to post such a positive review and also to the other next 2 posters a big thank you! It is always a pleasure to read that guests had a wonderful stay and such comments just are a great motivation to continue and improve where we can.

Anyhow, to get back to your 2 less positive comments:

1. What has to be borne in mind by visitors is that this is Cuba and certain services that we take for granted in the west, e.g. wi-fi and fast internet services and certain foods are simply not available there and it is unfair to blame any hotel for this.

Well, with pleasure I hereby announce that within approx. give or take 3-4 weeks we will have WIFI available in the lobby area. If this test proofs to be succesfull, we will extend the service throughout the hotel. Just a few contractual issues pending.

This comment made me smile! Anyhow, I was somewhat puzzled by that 3 o’clock hour, since the band in the lobby doesn’t start playing untill 5 o’clock? At least that’s what we contracted with them.
(maybe they were very much motivated that day and decided to start earlier….LOL).

I do however understand the under-siege feeling. In the afternoon – evening I always take half an hour and sit in the lobby bar drinking a coffee, observing what goes on. Various times I have called their attention that they should be a bit more discrete and reading your comment, I will do so again. Honestly deserves to say however, that there main income are the tips they get from our guests for playing a song, so you can’t really blame them. But thanks anyhow for pointing this out.

3. the reason that it can sometimes feel warm when returning to a room is that this is controlled via the card that it inserted to turn on the electricity in the room - so if it is really too warm for you, suggest that you ask for a second card and leave this in place when out of the room, so that the power and thus the air con remains on at all times.

Although this is just a regular observation, I do feel obliged to all past and future guests to make an additional comment here:

These type of doorlocks are actually designed to save energy…so your suggestion is not helping me here (smile). I know however, that many clients leave their card constantly in the lock and there is not much we can do about it, although the room-maid has the instruction to deactivate the lock when she enters the room for cleaning.

This year has been declared by the Cuban government as the year of the energetic revolution. Throughout the country and within the entire industry, energy saving is now priority number one.
We already have this energy-saving plan in action since 2001, so for us nothing new. But please take into account that this is an Island with relatively few resources to generate electricity. So all future guests, please help us saving energy and take your card out when you leave the room.

Once again many thanks to you and all the other reviewers for the positive comments.

(still number 2……but working on this to be number 1, smile).
