We stayed at the Parque Central for 3 nights in room 323. The hotel is situated in a very prominent position in Old Havana. All the main attractions of the old city are within a 15 minute walk. The new façade of the hotel may not be to everyone’s taste, but Havana is packed with amazing old buildings that bring the city to life.
The lobby is a spacious, well presented area. There are 2 reception desks at the front. A money exchange, an eating/drinks area and a bar. There is a tourist office for trips and car hire. The hotels main breakfast/dining room is also on the lobby floor. Up the stairs there is a lounge area and also 2 other shops. Internet access is also available on this floor. 4.50CUC an hour. (1.74CUC = £1.00)
There are 3 lifts which service the hotel and these can become quite busy. As our room was on the 3rd floor so we used the stairs.
The hotel has an abundance of polite, helpful and friendly staff. Not once did we come across any rudeness or a can’t be bothered attitude. Nothing was too much trouble.
Our room was a delight. A massive comfortable bed, bedside cabinets with lights, a large wardrobe with hangers, a table, 2 chairs, a writing desk and chair. The room also had a TV with 20 channels, mini bar, phone, safe and air con.
The bathroom had bath, shower, hairdryer, good towels, bathrobes and toiletries. There was constant hot water.
The hotel serves a fantastic hot/cold buffet breakfast from 7-10am. There are evening meals available as well. These are adequate, but not exciting. There is food and drink served on the roof terrace near the pool on the 9th floor. Pasta, grilled fish, chicken etc. A meal in the hotel will cost an average 12 CUC.
There is a well equipped gym on the 8th floor.
The Parque Hotel will certainly enhance your experience in Havana. The facilities are comparable to many in Europe or America.
Fortunately, Havana has a way of bringing reality back to your door. Not more than 2 streets away, you will find crumbling buildings, filthy pavements, and kids with no shoes and maybe using a bit of wood and a stone to play baseball. This obviously is not the hotels fault. There are many jobs which the hotel provides.
(Take some tennis or rubber balls with you to give away. Be careful or you will have a crowd round you very quickly once the kids find out about your generosity)
I would recommend a stay at The NH Parque Central to anyone.
I have written some tips on our stay in Havana , which I will post on the website if you wish to read them.
