We stayed at the Parque Central for 3 nights in room 323. The hotel is situated in a very prominent position in Old Havana. All the main attractions of the old city are within a 15 minute walk. The new façade of the hotel may not be to everyone’s taste, but Havana is packed with amazing old buildings that bring the city to life.
The lobby is a spacious, well presented area. There are 2 reception desks at the front. A money exchange, an eating/drinks area and a bar. There is a tourist office for trips and car hire. The hotels main breakfast/dining room is also on the lobby floor. Up the stairs there is a lounge area and also 2 other shops. Internet access is also available on this floor. 4.50CUC an hour. (1.74CUC = £1.00)
There are 3 lifts which service the hotel and these can become quite busy. As our room was on the 3rd floor so we used the stairs.
The hotel has an abundance of polite, helpful and friendly staff. Not once did we come across any rudeness or a can’t be bothered attitude. Nothing was too much trouble.
Our room was a delight. A massive comfortable bed, bedside cabinets with lights, a large wardrobe with hangers, a table, 2 chairs, a writing desk and chair. The room also had a TV with 20 channels, mini bar, phone, safe and air con.
The bathroom had bath, shower, hairdryer, good towels, bathrobes and toiletries. There was constant hot water.
The hotel serves a fantastic hot/cold buffet breakfast from 7-10am. There are evening meals available as well. These are adequate, but not exciting. There is food and drink served on the roof terrace near the pool on the 9th floor. Pasta, grilled fish, chicken etc. A meal in the hotel will cost an average 12 CUC.
There is a well equipped gym on the 8th floor.

The Parque Hotel will certainly enhance your experience in Havana. The facilities are comparable to many in Europe or America.

Fortunately, Havana has a way of bringing reality back to your door. Not more than 2 streets away, you will find crumbling buildings, filthy pavements, and kids with no shoes and maybe using a bit of wood and a stone to play baseball. This obviously is not the hotels fault. There are many jobs which the hotel provides.

(Take some tennis or rubber balls with you to give away. Be careful or you will have a crowd round you very quickly once the kids find out about your generosity)

I would recommend a stay at The NH Parque Central to anyone.

I have written some tips on our stay in Havana , which I will post on the website if you wish to read them.

We have just returned from a great holiday in Cuba.
We stayed for 3 nights at the parque central in Havana. We were very peased with the hotel and the location was excellent. The hotel was very clean, the rooms were large and comfortable, but would have liked tea or coffee making facilities in the room. The rooftop pool area was really nice with great views over Havana. Breakfast was excellent with a vast selection and food at the pool bar was basic but good. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful and the service was good. I would definately recommend the massage here.
Would also recommend a trip the the tropicana nightclub. We hired a classic convertible to take us there which was great.
Havana is a fantastic place to visit and this hotel was great to return to after wandering the fascinating streets.

Dear Trip Advisor user and reviewer,

Thanks you for your most positive comments on our hotel and I am pleased to hear that you've enjoyed your stay.

Just to get back on your remark re. the coffee and tea making facilities in the room: We don't offer them and nor do we plan to, for a simple reason:

1. we do have roomservice 24 hours.

2. All rooms are fitted with carpet and we have to make sure to maintain the carpet clean, since getting new carpet is quite a hassle here in cuba. And besides that..coffee stains in your carpet wouldn't look very atrractive for the guests.

I trust this answers your observation and hope to welcome you back during your next visit.

Hospitable Regards,
NH Parque Central

We spent 5 nights at the nH Parque Central. We agree with much of what others have written, but there were a couple of things that we wanted to add. The rooms are lovely, although without any ambiance or local "flavour". The bathtubs are extremely narrow, and for those people who are wider than average, a bath in these tubs would be uncomfortable if not impossible! However, the separate shower is very accommodating! The bathrobes were a nice extra. Our room was kept well, and we received chocolates on our pillows and a lovely note from our maid when we left her a gift. The service at the breakfast buffet was pleasant enough, but often inattentive. We were concerned to notice that the cutlery and dishes on the tables were sometimes not completely replaced after guests left (there was no way for the person setting the table to know for sure if this cutlery had been used or otherwise dirtied by the previous customer). Service at the lobby bar was slow, particularly when ordering food. The 3 lobby elevators were often slow and one was regularly out of service, making a walk to our room on the 4th floor a much quicker option. Two hints for pool-users: 1. take any elevator to the 8th floor, climb up the 4 or 5 steps to the 9th floor and you'll be at the pool much faster than waiting for the single elevator that goes to the 9th floor; 2. take your room towel and/or robe to the pool as they are frequently out of pool towels.

Dear Trip Advisor user and reviewer,

Thank you for the time and effort you took to post your review. Although you rated us as 4 out of 5, (thank you for that), pls allow me to answer to your less positive comments:

1. Service at breakfast was pleasant but inattentive:

Well, I am pleased to hear that you found the service pleasant and I do understand your qualification as to inattentive. Pls see one of my responses to previous reviews re. the service at breakfast. Meanwhile, once again, I have brought this to the attention of our food and beverage manager, so it has our constant attention.

2. Slow service in the lobby bar:

What can I say? Indeed I have to admit that sometimes the response time gives room for improvement. This issue has been mentioned in previous reviews as well, but it is something which from time to time keeps haunting me. I know I have said this before and it sounds cliche, but trust me, this also has our constant attention. Nevertheless it isn't a daily and / or common issue and we are still referring to isolated incidents.

3. Bathtubs are narrow:

Yep...you are right. Just out of curiousity I checked this with our head of maintenance, who was involved already during the construction of the hotel and funny enough though, the measures of our bathtubs are according to the international hotel standards. Maybe those international hotel standards should be revised? Meanwhile, pls use the separate shower....

4. Elevators:

Indeed we have a problem with one of our elevators. Please do believe me when I tell you that we are constantly working on this and without trying to justify, it is an issue of our provider. It seems that one of the computer circuits has to be replaced, but our provider, untill today, has not been able to provide one. So meanwhile we have to live with this situation and reset the system every time in order to have it functioning correct. I do hope that by next month this problem will be solved.

5. Lack of pool towels:

Indeed we had a small hick-up there and we lived a moment in which we hadn't enough pool towels available. Meanwhile I learned that last week an order has been placed to buy addtional pool-towels. So consider this issue solved.

6. The hotel could be anywhere:

Might be, but boy, am I glad that we are in Havana!

Thanking you once again for your observations,

Hospitable Regards,
NH Parque Central

We just returned from Cuba and stayed our first three nights at NH Parque. We were with another couple and all of us found that the hotel was wonderful. The rooms were very clean and well decorated. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. We do not have any negative things to say about this hotel. We had read that it did not have a cuban feel, but I disagree. Besides, you get the cuban feel after being out all day in the streets of Havana. It was nice to come back to a place that felt just a little like home. We travelled to Vinales and Trinidad and got enough of the real cuba to know that NH was a great place to return to. The pool is spectacular and the staff was more than attentive. The food in the buffet was probably the best we had in Cuba. I would definately recommend and also return to this hotel in a heartbeat.

Stayed here in February. Hotel is nothing special and lacks authenticy, nothing Cuban about it, you might as well be in London. Had problems when paying as receptionist did not speak sufficient english and tried to apply wrong rates. Not sure if this is regular, but also had problems with drunken Russians (at 1 pm in afternoon) bothering other guests. Appears to be overrated.

Dear Trip Advisor reviewer and user,

Thank you for posting your comments and your opinion re. the hotel. Unfortunately there is not much I can say, taking into account that your observations are rather subjective instead of objective.

All our staff speaks english and ofcourse some speak english better than other, but I don't think this is something to complain about.

Trying to apply the wrong rate is impossible, since our system does not permit this. Trust me on that one. I think there might have been a misunderstanding maybe due to the language barrier?

Drunken Russians at 1 pm in the lobby: It goes without saying that I can not be held responsable for the behaviour of other guests, but rest assured that we are very well aware of the Russian culture. We are keeping a close eye on this and will react whenever necessary, but hospitality (for everybody), is our business. However, being Russia only the 8th nationality in our hotel, I would consider your observation as an isolated incident. Really sorry you felt not comfortable.

The hotel appears to be overrated: What can I say? This is your personal opinion and everybody has a different taste. However, reading all the previous reviews and our current position in Trip Advisor, (which by the way shows that we went from number 1 to number 2...- have to work on that one -) I don't share this opinion.

Apparently, reading your review, something has happened during your stay in Cuba, which made you leave with this opinion. Really sorry you didn't contacted the management during your stay. Maybe we could have done something to change your opinion?

Hospitable Regards,
NH Parque Central
