Stayed at the Parque Central for 3 nights in August. Check in was simple and painless. We had a lovely room on the 5th floor. Bathroom had a bath and shower which was great. Breakfast was fantastic with everything you can imagine, we also ate in the restaurant on our first night, which was really good with the waiters being very attentive. The pool area is great and food there is also very good. We also spent some time at the bar there watching the Olympics with the saff, which was fun.

The hotel is a perfect cool haven after a day out in the city. The only down side is the bank. You have to wait in line for ages. you have to go in by yourself and the teller is so slow. I think I waited about 3/4 hour and there was only 6 people in front of me - I will never moan about Barclay's again.

Havana is an amazing place and I miss it so much, although I could never live there. We hired a guide for 2 days - first day we walked for 8 hours around Old Havana, learning it's history and what it's like to live there. We sampled great Mojito's and coffee and had a lovely lunch. Only the second day we had a guide and driver to go further afied - well worth every penny or cuc!!!

Our guide also booked us some fantastic restaurants. We went to the cigar factory, rum museum, market, into someones home to look at his art and the Taller Fuster's studio which was gob smacking. We walked along the Malecon and just walked the streets soaking up the atmosphere.

We felt very safe, athough I had been anxious before we went. There are kids who ask for sweets and people who want to take you to ' a really good bar/restaurant' but there is no pressure, just be polite, smile and say no thanks.

I would go back next week if I could, the people are friendly, the architecture is supurb if sad and unloved and the old American cars are wonderful and I'm not even interested in cars.

If your thinking out going to Havana then go you will love it - i did and I will be back.

Dear Trip Advisor readers,

Thank you so much for your comments in this review. However, we realized that you were not happy with the service provided by the exchange office; as usual we took your comment very seriously and was notified to the management of CADECA, in a monthly feedback meeting of external agencies that provides services to the hotel.
We assured that this matter has been well addressed to, and we expect no further negatives comments. Once again thank you for helping us to continuously improve our service.

stayed 10 nights here recently, overall very nice hotel. Nice room (fifth floor overlooking the park), nice staff, nice location.

Only issue we had was on the Saturday night during the hurricane (Gustuv), being a F4 the hotel was "encouraging" people not to leave the hotel, unfortunately this meant the restaurants having limited menus to (i think) cope with the increase number of people. Unfortunately that meant the food was very expensive limited choice. But this was in the middle of a hurricane and the normal menu looked very appealing.

Dear Trip Advisor readers,

Thank you very much for your positive comments posted in your review and your understanding about the difficulties generated during the hurricane event. However is very important for us to answer your remarks.

1. Only issue we had was on the Saturday night during the hurricane (Gustav), being a F4 the hotel was "encouraging" people not to leave the hotel:

Absolutely true: In Hurricane situations, Cuban Civil Defense has as first priority the preserving of people’s lives, then all necessary actions are taken, and the hotel complies strictly with it, we are also constantly informing our guests of the variations of meteorological events.

2. Unfortunately this meant the restaurants having limited menus to (I think) cope with the increase number of people. Unfortunately that meant the food was very expensive limited choice.

AT our Hotel, all our guests usually have breakfast and then go for a walk to enjoy Havana. During Hurricane Gustav, we had at about 400 Guests that could not get out of the hotel; they stayed consuming in all our facilities. For that reason, it was necessary to select a menu that could cope with the situation. The same day we entered in the recuperative phase, the normal menu was completely restored though. Anyway, thanks for your comments, there are always things to improve.

Hospitable Regards,
NH Parque Central

After spending 10 nights in Varadero, I was really looking forward to spending time in Havana. I wasn't disappointed. The hotel is in a fabulous location, and the city is very easy to navigate on foot. Check in/out was quick and efficient and the room was more than adequate. A huge room overlooking the park. The breakfast was plentiful and well presented, the pancakes were especially good. I didn't eat in the restaurants in the evening, but had a snack by the pool. Prices were typical hotel prices and the food was good. The roof pool was a welcome retreat after a hot day seeing the sights. It can be difficult to get a lounger, even later in the day. Cabin Crew from Virgin use this hotel and spent most of their time by the pool. When on the roof terrace looking out to the Capitol building, take a look at the buildings to the left of the hotel and you can see bullet holes, the aftermath of the revolution. The views reminded me of a film set.
It is well worth doing a tour of the city with a guide, lots of interesting facts I had missed when using the lonley plant guide on my own tour. A visit to the cigar factory is a must, if you speak to the agency in the lobby of the hotel, they can advise you on tour times and provide a ticket. I also took a horse drawn carriage tour around the Havana. The most disappointing part of my stay in Havanna was Tropicanna, I was unsure about going in the first place. A lot of people had pointed out that it is a tourist trap but is a must see/do. I didn't really enjoy the night, and felt it was overpriced at around £50 each, added to that the cost of a taxi as it 20 minutes out of Havana and the drinks. However make your own mind up.
Havana is infectious and I can't wait to return.

We stayed in the Parque Central for 8 nights. I sent an email 2 months prior requesting a room on the 7th floor facing the park. On arrival we were told that the room was unavailable however they had the exact same room on the 4th floor. What a wonderful view. We were lucky because we had a balcony on occasions we would sit out on the balcony.
My son (11yrs old) just loved the pool. When we returned from a long day sightseeing my son just loved to jump in the cool pool and he also made a few friends.
The staff were friendly and helpful (we expected the slow pace). The room was clean, there is one thing that I would reccomend is tea/coffee service in the bedroom. As an English person I just love my tea and was gasping for afternoon tea and had to either order room service or go along to the lobby. There were only 4 irons in the hotel so I had to wait a day to get one.
The bottle water was really expensive in the hotel and was less than half price in the shops. There are shops 5 mins walk from the hotel.
The breakfast was was fantastic, so much to choose from. Omlette is the chef's speciality.
Most of the museums are about 10 mins walk and there is a book/craft market wed-fri 20 mins away.
The Cubans are so friendly and they do make the effort to speak English with you. Ignore the people asking for money.(which they do tend to hang around the hotel) and a polite no will suffice.
Taxis are cheap and we used them a lot to get about, especially travelling out of Havana, agree on a price before you get in their taxi.
We loved the hotel, staff and Havana and would definatley stay there again.

My wife and I spent 4 nights at the Parque Central during our 2-week holiday in Cuba. The hotel was centrally located in old Havana and was ideal for exploring the local attractions. Our room which faced directly onto the square was large, spacious, and very comfortable.

Breakfast was included in the price and was vary tasty with a wide selection of dishes to choose from. One annoying thing was the violin player who only managed to squeak a few notes from his instrument before stopping and wiping his brow. We wondered if this was caused by the heat or his inability to actually play the instrument!

The bar which was well used was great but the drinks were relatively expensive with a Mojita priced at around 6 CUC. Various musicians would play for you for a small fee, the ambience was exactly as I had expected when booking this hotel. (The best Mojita and most reasonably priced we found was just around the corner at the fish restaurant situated next door to the Floradita bar.)

The rooftop pool was brilliant...but be aware that very early in the day all the loungers would go! Usually filled by the many airline crews who use this hotel.

Apart from breakfast we did not eat at this hotel preferring instead to sample other premises located in Havana. Two that must deserve a mention were La Guarida and La Fontana both served excellent reasonably priced food probably the best that we devoured in our two week stay in Cuba. A word of warning La Guarida is situated in a very run down area of central Havana. Do not be put off, although located in what I can only describe as a run down slum building the restaurant located on the third floor was absolutely excellent.

To sum up the NH Parque Central was an excellent hotel ideally situated for site seeing in Havana. Although billed as a 5 star it is probably only an average 4 star hotel by European standards. I would certainly return and have no hesitation in recommending it to other TA users.
