“great location and rooftop but v poor service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

(stayed in the old building - there are two buildings next to each other)

worth it for the location, slap bang in the middle of Havana and on the border of the old town and centro areas. close to all main attractions. the roof top pool is fantastic with great views over the city. the roof top bar is good, and the food great for snacks (pizzas/burgers) with your rum.

very big and comfortable bed/pillow in a standard room.

v poor service. e.g. on arrival no intros to hotel facilities, timing or location of breakfast etc. e.g. having to ask for a coffee 4 x at breakfast - little things that add up. also the 3 x surly bouncer staff (for who exactly?) a constant presence in the reception - not the welcome required.

if you're not fussed about service and want a hotel in a great location with good facilities i would defo recommend, but don't expect 5* treatment.

Stayed here for 5 days in November 2012, absolutely fabulous hotel. Staff were great couldn´t do enough for you. The odd one reminded me of home, surly Spaniard!

Breakfast was very good, something for everyone, a good start to the day. For dinner food not so good but after going out and having terrible food, found the Tapas could do the trick for me.

One night out in Havana, found it very intimidating (two mature women alone, great prey for all and sundry!) so stayed in the hotel. Entertainment very good, although a bit on the quietish side.

Roof pool in the modern part was much nicer than the pool on the Colonial side.

Would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing stay.

Do not have a bad word to say about this hotel. Stayed in the modern part which was very clean. Lot of traffic noise from very early in the morning but then Havana is a very noisy city.

Room Tip: Mobility could be a problem in the modern part, having to go down stairs, then through the tunnel an...

Must be the best location in Havanna. Old part of the hotel is a must if you want character. Lovely rooftop pool with fantastic views of the Capital etc. Just a couple of minutes walk from the old town. Probably one of the best breakfast buffets we have had and couldn't fault the service - despite usual issue of water not being hot enough to make english tea!

Beautiful lounge and bar area serving reasonably priced snacks - lovely restaurant if you don't want to risk the local bars etc.

Room Tip: Old part of hotel seems to have rooms with the best view - although we understand the new hotel room...

Clean , tidy , excellent location and friendly staff. Rooms are large and clean in the new section and the breakfast is much better in the old section.( much more variety ). The pool is small but quite pretty . ( deck chairs are a little tired). Lovely spot. Hotel better than average but not' Very Good' so plumpted for lower option. The bar snacks are ok but lifts can be a bit slow and hard to catch.

Room Tip: obtain one on 8th or 9th in the new section. There are NO views but rooms are very nice.

Great location to see old Havana. We spent three nights there and enjoyed it. I would say this is your best option in Havana. The service was great, the lobby is classic, large and there was live music every evening. You can walk and see most of old town from there, however I suggest a car tour and a horse carriage ride too. We had a room with a nice view of the square, however if we stayed again I would ask for an interior room with a court yard view. The traffic noise gets loud early and I don't think you would hear it in an interior room.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room ask for a court yard room.

Arrived in Havana in the evening after a really long flight from the UK. Check in was quick & easy. Our room was in the old part of the hotel. It was really spacious with a nice clean bathroom.
Headed for the bar for a drink & something to eat. Compared to the UK prices are very reasonable (of course outside the hotel is cheaper).
The hotel is situated in Old Havana close to all of the sights. As soon as you step foot out of the hotel you are bombarded with people trying to sell you horse and carriage rides, classic car rides, cigars etc but as when you say no they leave you alone. We did lots of sightseeing, Havana is the most amazing city, unlike anywhere I have ever been. Our highlight was a tour of the city in a bright pink 1952 Convertible Chevrolet. We had already done a tour on the bus so our guide took us to places that we would never had seen, (John Lennon Park, a beautiful river spot but don't know what it was called, sorry!). Well worth every peso (cost us 30cuc for the car & driver and we gave the guide another 25cuc as we had such a fantastic time).
We stayed 3 nights in the old hotel before going to Guadalavacca then back for our final nite before flying home but our room was in the new part of the hotel (linked by an underground corridor). New hotel is lovely, very modern with spacious rooms. It's a matter of taste but we did prefer the old part of the hotel.
After a full on day in Havana the hotel is a luxurious place to return to. Service is good, food not bad, rooms spacious and clean and breakfast is plentiful.
I was very nervous about going to Havana. Although it is very noisy, busy and you do get pestered a bit the Cubans are great people! I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and am so glad I have been.
Go to Havana, stay at this lovely hotel and have the experience of a lifetime! ENJOY!

Room Tip: Visitors from the UK will need to take the European type electrical adapter for this hotel (unlike o...

We have just spent 8 days in this hotel.
Our room was in the new section which meant it was a walk from the main hotel, down stairs through a corridor (under the road),upstairs again to take the lift to our 8th floor room.
There were only 2 lifts working so it was very annoying - especially when people were trying to check in or out. One of the lifts wouldn't take more than 4 or 5 people either.
There were some really nice staff in the old colonial side of the hotel - especially the young concierges who were so helpful.
On our side they were not so good. The young woman in charge of the breakfast room was a real grump - and positively rude. 3 times she asked us to leave as breakfast was finished. All 3 times there was 5 minutes to go. We were just sitting chatting to our friends. We've never stayed in a hotel where you had to leave the restaurant before 10am - usually they stop people coming in after that time.
The barman was also grumpy and was reluctant to let me have a glass of ice to take to my room. I had to provide my own glass. We ordered a sparkling wine with a bucket of ice from room service 3 or 4 times and each time there was never enough ice in the bucket. We figured that water must be an expensive commodity in Cuba. There wasn't even a free bottle of water in the room to brush teeth. After paying 130GBP a night for a 5* hotel we sort of expected one.
There were 2 4ft beds in the room and both uncomfortable. The mattresses were what you'd expect in a 2*hotel. The carpets through the lobby and in the bedroom were filthy and discoloured.
The soap was never replaced - I had to ask the maid for toiletries most days.
But hey! This was Cuba and after a few days we chilled out and expected all sorts of weird quirky ways.
The positives were that the location was great, we felt safe as we could climb into a taxi right outside, the hotel restaurant served delicious steaks and they had a wine selection.
The rooftop area was lovely with fantastic views. It was nice to sit there with a coffee or glass of wine.
I would rate the hotel good - not "very good"
For our last night in Havana there were no rooms available so we had booked the Telegrapho Hotel just across the road. It was a lot cheaper and 4*. much better value for money (see separate review)
If returning to Havana I would stay in the same area, but probably not at Parque Central unless they had a special offer on.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on 9th floor as there is a lot of street noise Loud music on Saturday nights wit...

Dear Guest,
Thanks a lot for letting me know your thoughts, I have read very carefully your words and we would love to apologize for all the inconveniences you stated on them, in this review you have several points and you can be sure we have already taken our actions in order to improve our daily acting, it is true that the hotel has scheduled timings in order to get all the services on time, but it doesn´t justify at all rudeness or grumpiness, we are also making already a refurbishment, and based on the fact that if you stated these problems, you share the same philosophy as us we do that a mistake always gives room for improvement. We hope next time you will chose us and you could see by yourself all our efforts in order to improve.
Once again thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts with us.

Hospitable regards,
