We came in from Varadero to overnight in Old Havana for my birthday. The rooms were interesting - small hard beds, with 20 foot ceilings and large bathrooms. Our room fronted on the street, but the power was out in most of Old Havana that evening, so the street lights were off most of the night. This also meant the bank machine wasn't working and the nearby Floridia closed.
The hotel staff were not very engaged or helpful. We wanted to dine on the rooftop and asked if we could pay by Visa or charge the meal to our room. They said either way. We had a reasonably-priced by mediocre meal, with great views of the city. When we went to pay with Visa, the waiter was pretty rude saying he was very busy and he had to take it down to the lobby, yada, yada. Ten minutes later, we signed off and left without leaving any tip.
The self-serve (included) breakfast the next morning was pretty good. The only service we received was removing our empty plates. A pretty cool old hotel and nice location, but I wouldn't go back.
Stay next door at the Telegrafo, or if you have $, try the Saratoga.
