I dont see why other people on here have been writing negative reviews about this hotel.
Maybe its because our hotel in Varadero we were staying at wasnt at such a high standard as this one...but was nice all the same. My stay at the habana libre was great. We didnt know what to expect, as we stayed here for one night on a trip from Varadero to Havana. When we arrived in our rooms, i was amazed by the view. We were on the 19th floor, and wow...i have never seen anything like it! The rooms were big and clean and comfy. Also the food was nice. Didnt have any problems at all at this hotel. Everyone was kind. The nightclub on the 25 floor is a must go! Its great. Live Cuban band, Glass walls...overlooking Havana lit up by night..amazing! If i was ever to return to Havana, i wouldnt hesitate to stay here again.

Stay 2 nigths in July 2005, got a large room on 20th floor, the only good thing about the hotel is the View and the night club on the 25th Floor, rooms are old and shabby, bathrooms are not mantained at all, air conditioning is not working well, and the worst thing is the food. I would not stay there again.

For the second time there... Is not a great hotel, but pleasent to Havana.
I recommend the oldest hotels in the old Havana like: Inglaterra, Palacio O'Farril or Santa Isabel.
But the rooms are ok, it's clean, the view is fantastic, the food is ok.
A great restaurant is the Polinesian.

I stayed at the Habana Libre for 5 nights during May 2005. Our room was large and clean. Service in the hotel was mostly quick and friendly. In regards to meals, the buffet breakfast contained a generous amount and variety of food. The décor was a little dated and at times at bit bare. However, in generally I think that considering we were in Cuba, the Habana Libre was a good choice of hotel.
