Stayed there as part of an overnight package from Varadero. The loby of the hotel is OK, straight out of the 60's. The food and buffet area was above average. The rooms, oh my god, the rooms were just terrible. Stains, rust, dirty looking, musty, a real vacation nightmare. I would have quoted this hotel a 1/2 star! Take a look at the pictures... The view of Havana was excellent.

Just returned from 2 great weeks in Cuba. We spent the first 4 nights in the Havana Libra. This is a nice hotel in a good location. The room was huge and very clean. It is a little tatty in places but what do you expect from such an old building!!!! The breakfast was good with lots to choose from. Do not eat in the buffet resturant for dinner the food is horrible and if your not all inclusive its expensive!!! Apart from that I have no complaints. The swimming pool was nice and the service is good. I can't belive people complain about the security gards on the door I always thought that was a good thing!!!!! If your going to this hotel have a lovely time Havana is a great city.

We had a nice time at the Havana Libre. The food was good.
The room was clean and very big. It was a convience place to be at
across the street from the famous icecream park. Down the street
was the old ex-Mafia hotel the National.
We walked over the Malacon to the Old Havana and spend time
there.
Our view from our room was the best one ever!!! We were on the
22 floor looking over the city, the malacon and the ocean and the Harbour.
The lights would shine right in our room from the old fortress.
We walked to the old cemetery Kristobal Colon. It was interesting.
We did have a damper on our holidays. We were walking to the
statue of Jose Marti. When a Cuban-Black man approaced us and wanted to show us around and wanted to take us there. We said okay. He got us lost and then he pulled off my fanny pack which contained two cameras.
We did not bother going to the police they were cheap cameras. Nothing
was lost. When I mentioned this incident to a few Cuban people they were
very embarrassed after that I did not tell any one anymore.
We had a wonderful time at this hotel it was in a very convenient place if you want to have the highlights of Havana.

I went to this hotel as a result of asking to be moved from another hotel. I was fairly impressed with this one - but then again it is in theory a 5*. Room was nice, the dining room was too and the food I tried (breakfast) was excellent. A great range of juices and food to suit every nationality. So far so good. The only down side is the pool. It is a traditional oblong and quite small. You get the impression its kind of for businessmen as you wouldn´t really want to spend much time here. It´s quite serious - so no kids to be seen really. The food in the bar area next to the pool is also very expensive. It is quite well situated though and in general I have to say I was happy with it and that I would be happy to go back there. There is also a disco on one of the upper floors but it has quite a few prostitutes in.
Would definitely recommend hiring a moped in cuba as you get to see loads of havana easily. I would also recommend taking a two part stay - part in havana and part in varadero (beaches). The only thing about cuba that does get annoying is people trying to rip you off. But it is understandable - as getting a few dollars off only a couple of people equals what a cuban earns working every day of the month. So there are more and more people doing this. You MUST check your restaurant and cafe bills as they are often mysteriously large compared to the prices shown on the menus.

Stayed there for 10 nights. Clean well appointed rooms with a great view of the Malecon. The food (included with our package) was plain & simple but ok. Service was good and the hotel's location in Vedado was excellent.
