A large group of us stayed at the hotel in April 08. Firstly this hotel is impressive in its design but old and a bit tired also. Upon arrival I loved the general atmosphere and location of the hotel. I have never been in a lobby so big. The lifts are like being on a fair ground ride, very fast and a little scary, but thats ok and different. The room was massive, the bathroom great and vanity area fantastic. The beds were ok, air con fine, decor very dated. The view from the balconies was amazing especially at night, I will never forget how It felt to look out over Havana, very romantic. The bar on the second floor is not great after midnight, its can I say? full of prostitutes, I was there with a group which included male guys and they got hussled for drinks and looked very uncomfortable with the general pushiness of certain ladies, I was propositioned twice by guys selling something!!! We then went to the club on the 25th floor, which was chilled, music great, view totally out of this world so a complete different atmosphere with no prostitutes. The restaurant on the 2nd floor is terrible there were no clean tables, cutlery or plates, I had to hunt for a glass and plate of any kind myself, food not chilled and left out, food not kept hot. No bread no coffee and terrible staff. I enjoyed my experience in Havana and the oddness and quirky side of the Habana Libre for one night only. Wouldnt go back to the hotel, would go back to Havana though as loved the city and culture.

I stayed with my wife in this Hotel in August 2006 and it can be said that this was the worse hotel experience of my life.

The room was filthy when we arrived: The sheets of the bed weren´t clean, the toilet had a piece of s*** floating still, the floor of the room was broken in same places so you had be carefull not to cut a feet.

In the restaurant the glass doors were broken and the food was terrible-Specially when comparing with the hotel we stayed after in Cayo Largo.

The personnel wasn´t at all friendly-Exception to the public relations that had to put up with all the complaints

DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL IF YOU PRAISE YOUR HOLIDAY!

Before going I read a few reviews, which were somewhat mixed and I was concerned that the hotel was a bit of a dump. In fact its OK, with great views over Havana, good food (particularly ground floor restaraunt - go there instead of over the road where people were getting ripped off).
Its a large and old hotel, so not bright and shiny, but all four of us who stayed thought it was OK, large pool and good location.
Downers - dreadful lifts and aircon a bit iffy!

I stayed here for 1 night in November 2007, the hotel was officially a 5 star, but i think it is more like a 3 star.
It was clean, the beds were comfy and the location was good.
I would stay here again.
Yes the lifts went very fast and sometimes you had to wait a while for them to arrive, but all in all the hotel was fine.
