Expensive, dirty and old hotel with very poor service. Doesn't deserve its 5 stars.
Dirty sheets, broken TV, dirty carpets, air conditioning out... Many bad experiences. Staff doesn't care about their customers.

I picked this hotel in the believe that I was going to find the quality of a Melia Hotel, but it was far from that. The air conditioning was broken so they put us in another room and next day was the same story. The worst of all, the last afternoon of my stay, somebody stole from my room a nice shirt I just had bought for my son. Once I got home next day I wrote to the Director and of course no shirt and no one found responsible. I also had two flies in my food. The staff was very nice. I would never go back to this "hotel". Habana is a beautiful city, but never stay in this hotel.
5 star hotel no I dont think so. The rooms were filthy, and we checked several just incase there had been a mistake. Yes we were told that it is a third world country, but get real, it should be clean! I could not go in the bathroom for fear of catching something, electrical fitments hanging off the walls, carpets thick with I do not know what, it makes me feel ill to think about our dreadful experience. I will say no more just look at the photos. We are doing battle with the travel agents looking for compensation. Please do not go to this hotel.
We stayed 3 nights at this hotel in the last week in May. We found no problem with the staff nor with the buffet restaurant. The hotel is a little run down, but this is Havana not New York or London. Cuba is classed as a 'Third World' country so don't expect everything to be as it is in other, more prosperous places. Enjoy the experience that is Havana while you can and if you stay at this hotel, walk across the road to Coppelia Ice Cream Park and enjoy eating the best ice-cream in Cuba while people watching.
Checking out of the hotel was a bit of a hassle because only 3 of the 6 lifts (elevators) worked, eventually one of the maids took our party round to the service lifts and we used those. As to there being no stairs (see a previous review) this is not true but it would be a bit of a pain carrying luggage up or down if you are on the higher floors.
Cuba is a great place to holiday, Havana Libre Hotel is the opposite, do not stay at this hotel, the experience will spoil your vacation. Dirty bedrooms, bathrooms & corridors. Air conditioning that doesn't work and breakfast that beggars belief. I'm keeping this short the Tryp Habana Libre should be avoided if you have a reservation cancel! Take a look at the photographs, a picture is worth a thousand words.
