The Hotel is a good tourist deal in Havana. Keep your expectations low, and you'll have a comfortable stay!
Nice pool overlooking old Havana !
Fantastic location, right on the Malacon.
Breakfast is a "riot"..... short of everything !

Very helpful front desk !

Hum ... Our paths could have crossed (re: "Avoid at all costs"). I stayed at the Deauville Feb. 3 to Feb. 17, 2006 ...
The room was clean, though not luxurious. No cockroaches on the 11th floor. Magnificent view. Went to bed and woke up to the sound of the waves pounding the walls of the Malecon since I felt safe leaving the windows open at night.
The staff was courteous to me at all times. And competent. Especially the friendly lobby bar staff.
The food, of course, was awfull. But one does not go to Habana for the cuisine, although it had improved from my previous visit, three years ago.
This is a 3-star hotel, for heavens' sake. I've seen a lot worse, in London (on Sussex Gardens, for instance) at three times the price. And with the score of police officers on the streets at all times, its probably safer than the Paddington Station area.
If one expects 5-star accomodations and service in Habana, there are plenty of other places. And quite affordable.

There was diahorrea on the sheets. Cockroaches everywhere. Hypodermic needles in the drawers. Situated in prostitute and mugger Mecca central.

The staff were the rudest ever. Refused to odder a replacement room. Lifts were broken. The manager refused to provide breakfast that was included in the price. He threw me out! I was glad to leave.

A total disgrace to Cuba.

Redeeming quality: I came back several days later to reclaim my underpants I'd forgotten, and was given them by the room maid.

An awful hotel, i've read the reviews on Tripadvisor but never posted, however I feel a duty to let people know just how bad this place is.

We were meant to stay for a few nights on a break from our beach holiday in Varadero. Fortunately, we only paid for one night and left asap the next morning.

The reception are very unfriendly and the look on the faces of people staying in the hotel should have given a clue to the standard, everyone looked thoroughly fed up.

The hotel smells and the corridors are tired and damp looking. The room itself was worse with broken tiles in the bathroom and grubby bedding. The beds also have a thick plastic protection sheet which make it near impossible to sleep. A generator also groaned loudly through the night and there was a horrific noise from the lift shaft that went on into the early hours.

Breakfast was consistent with the whole Deauville package... watered down dilluted orange juice, scrambled egg that looked older than Castro and plain spaghetti.

I regard myself as a pretty easy going traveller who is easily please but this place is the pits.

Do yourself a favour and book in somewhere else... my recommendation Inglaterra, better location, better hotel and staff generally more friendly.

Just spent 14 nights in the Hotel Deauville and cant understand some of the things said about it, we had a decent sized room with a balcony and great view of the malecon/sea (see photo) the room was cleaned daily the loo roll was changed when needed and if we needed more the maid obliged, constant hot water, the room had safe in it at a cost of 2 cuc per day, the bar was open 24 hours (residents only) with internet access costing 3cuc per 1/2 hour it has a money exchange desk and its own travel agents and car rental desks, it has a nighclub downstairs open till 4am and used by locals, the buffet breakfast though was terrible boiled eggs, toast and juice the only edible things amongst a huge selection. The location is fine as well, 10 minutes walk along the malecon to the old town or 2 cuc (£1.40) in a taxi, you will get the you want buy cigars my friend along the way but a no thanks is more than enough for them, all in all we couldnt really complain about this hotel given the state of affairs in cuba and I would recommend it to anyone
