Stayed in this hotel for 9 nights (b+b) back in May after booking the holiday with theholidayplace.com.
The 'bungalow' room (first floor flat) was fantastic. Very very large clean apartment with 2 balconies, massive bed, fridge, satellite tv and effective air conditioning.
The hotel seemed fairly quiet, but this was probably due to the time of year. There are many pools on site about 7 we counted i think and would often have one of these to ourselves in the late afternoon, which was lovely. The sunbeds are very comfortable!
The beach area is a small man-made beach area but we didnt use it.
The breakfast wasn't particularly great often consisting of the previous-nights buffet food, but the fresh fruit and pastries were good. I would recommend the cooked to order omlettes.
We ate in both the on-site Italian and Grill restaurants and had pleasant meals with attentive service at a very reasonable price. The cocktails/beers were excellent and also well priced. There is also a 24-hour poolside snack bar (not noisy) on site serving snacks such as burgers, sandwiches and ice creams. This was a god send when we arrived hungry at 3am after a long flight!
I would recommend a visit to the El Alijibe restaurant in Miramar - a short taxi ride from the hotel as the food there was great.
There is also an on-site supermarket which is handy for water etc.
Both the reception staff and Cubanacan reps were very helpful and attentive. We changed our £ into CUCs several times at reception, no problems. Through the Cubanacan reps we booked some excursions - a half day classic car tour of Havana, a 1 day trip to the Mogotes/Pinar del Rio and another 2 day over night excursion to the villages in the centre of Cuba, such as Trinidad and Santa Clara. All the trips were good and well organised. We also got our tickets for the fabulous Tropicana show from the reps, which is definately worth a watch.
The hotel is about a 15 minute journey into the centre of Havana either by taxi (10-12CUCs or £5-6) or the free hotel courtesy coach which left the hotel at 9am, 11am and 9pm (i think from memory). We would take the coach into town and then get a taxi back. I would recommend going into Havana at night for a meal as it is very atmospheric with music playing in all the bars. You could get the 9pm coach in and get the 11pm coach back and still have time for a meal and a wander/drink.
Whilst the hotel is not in the centre of Havana, the trip in along 5th Avenue and the Malecon is lovely and being able to cool down in a choice of swimming pools after a hot days site seeing is worth the 15min journey back to the hotel without a doubt. The city is very hot and a bit car fumey so it was great to escape after a long hot day.
I would definately stay in this hotel again.
