“A writer's paradise”

So enjoyed seeing the grounds where Hemingway lived. Much nicer than I expected. Unfortunately it had rained pretty heavily that day so the windows were closed. Worth coming back to.

“The ultimate writer's home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

Perched high on a hill, Hemingway's home is exactly as you would hope. Beautifully preserved, visitor's must be content to simply wander the grounds and peek into the windows and doorways. Access to the interior of the house is restricted, but it didn't detract from the experience at all. A winding stairway leads even higher, to a tower with a stunning view of Havana where the writer sat at his desk and put his words to paper.

The property is beautiful and contains a lovely swimming pool, an orchid draped veranda and his boat Pilar.

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

Didn't dislike anything, the guides there were very friendly and would have been very informative, had we spoke Spanish, our fault not theirs and despite the language barrier, the young lady made a supreme effort, with a lot of jocularity between us, to make herself understood. It is a credit that they have kept his house in the way that it was and not bowed down to pressure - this is relating to all the animal heads on the wall. I don't like it but appreciate that was how it was, in those days and that is who Ernest Hemingway was.

“Touched me more than I thought it would”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Cuba. You are able to see how Hemingway lived and wrote. But there is just something special about it being just the same as it was when he lived there. No commercialism. The smiles on our faces in the photos tell the story. Even my partner who really didn't care to see this sight was impressed!!

“Island paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

A lovely estate to visit and see why and where Hemingway made his home for so long. These were the days. A step back in literary history. Look into doors and windows only, but one call see it all. No on site guided tour or written information.
