Just back from Cuba and wishing we were still there!
Stayed at the Santa Isabel for first three nights of our holiday and really enjoyed the hotel.
Whole building is very pretty and bedrooms are huge and immaculate. Everything kept very clean and tidy.
The location of the hotel is great, really central for all the sights, and being pedestrianised there was no noisy traffic outside the hotel, just a lovely park with daily book market.
Havana is much more expensive than we thought it would be so take more money than you think you'll need because you most certainly will need it.
Majority of staff were lovely. Don't, however, ask reception for advice on where to eat as we were sent to the most expensive restaurant (Oriente) which was very poor quality despite beautiful service and setting. One course with one drink for 2 set us back £55!! My advice would be to go to the Medina restaurant which had gorgeous food at very reasonable prices. Its really close to the hotel so just ask for directions.
If you're in Havana on a Tuesday, try to go to the Museo del Ron for the evening music, fantastic!!!
Breakfasts were from a good menu which was waiter served and very well presented. One of the waitresses looked like she would crack her face if she smiled, but most of the waiting on staff were very friendly.
Despite the room manual stating that checkout is 2pm it is actually 12 midday. We had a bit of a row with the reception guy on our final day as we wandered back to the hotel at 1pm and got 'told off''. He did apologise in the end when we brought down the manual to prove that we had been misled, as they had no idea it was printed as 2pm.
Would I stay at this hotel again? yes I probably would.
