At first glance an impressive place, but to get food poisoning within 36 hours means there must be underlying problems. Almost all the couples we spoke to had experienced gastric troubles varying from mild tummy upsets to being placed on a drip.

The room was comfortable, when it was at last ready, but a route march from the lift. Room service was slow the once we tried it.

Breakfast was a mixed up affair, why not have the milk next to the breakfast cereals, and the bacon next to the guy cooking the eggs?

For what it cost I did not feel we had value for money.

Hotel Nacional is rated as a five star but in reality it's a dump. Rooms small, musty, old linens, and dismal. Bathrooms broken, with rust and leaking. Blinds are bent and need replacing. Service people were always looking for a handout and rooms were over $200.00 per night. Most depressing place was the city. Like a penitentiary for the people. Could not wait to leave. This probably won't be published.

Stayed here in mid June for three nights and would highly recommend this hotel. Arriving here by taxi from the airport just blew me away, the place is beautiful.
We staying in room 803 which is on the top floor and must have the best view for the standard rooms possibly better than any other room. One window looks out to the sea and along the Malecon and the other looks right out across the city.
Staff were very helpful, the guy who shows you how to work your safe arranged for our toilet to be fixed within 10 mins. the gardens bar is great in the evening and you always get generous measures of alcohol.
The little museum which details the history of the hotel in the Cuban Missle Crisis is amazing and well worth a look.
I'd recommend this hotel to stay in, it is 5 star just a little faded round the edges but thats what make this place I feel.

This is probably Havana's best hotel. Havana is crumbling so in comaprison this is a splendid building with lots of character. However the rooms are rather tired and smell pretty musty. If you're in Havana though I would still recommend checking in here because you know you'll be looked after.

The hotel ais beautiful but I just wanted to point out that on a few different occasions we found that different staff members overcharged us. For example, we went to a concert in the hall there and each waiter charged us a differeent price for mojitos. When we questioned the second and third waiters as to why the price of the mojitos went up, they each said that they had included the tip in the price they had quoted. The first waiter charged us 3 dollars each, the sescond four and the third five. Not significant, but dishonest. I also want to point out that the buffet lunch there is the best i had in Cuba and that when we asked the price, we were told one price but that we could have it for 5 dollars less.
