The current state of the 2 BR apartment we stayed in would get a lower rating, but this resort has potential, because they are in the process of renovation right now. Our apt. was one of the few available as most were in a state of being remodeled. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We had issues with water not draining from the shower, the AC in the bedroom not cooling properly, and a clogged toilet. The maintenance crew arrived within minutes each time and resolved the problems in a timely fashion. The overall appearance of the interior was dismal. Furniture and appliances were obviously very old, stained, and rusty (fridge). The bed was hard. There are shelves in the bedrooms to stack your clothes, etc., but nowhere to really put things out of sight. There was a nice, secure locking safe built into the closet. The thin, flimsy curtains in the bedroom did nothing to block the light and heat, and there was a gap between the window openings in both bedrooms where the mosquitoes swarmed in. (Note: These mosquitoes seem to be resistant to any type of repellant. Take something with you to treat the stings, because you will get them!) We had good maid service - towels were replaced daily and the linens were crispy and nice - and the spaces were very well-cleaned each day .
They are building a beach club which should open later this year. Construction noise interferes with being able to completely relax on the beach and listen to sound of the palm branches swaying and waves washing onto the shore. This should come to an end soon, but you may want to check the status of the construction. If you enjoy music (loud!) on the weekends right outside your door, make sure you request a room close to the ocean and the bar. Each night (including week nights) there is music playing until around midnight, but on the weekends, they really crank it up. It's kind of a trade-off - lovely in the mornings to step out on the porch for coffee and enjoy the ocean breezes, but not so much at night - unless you're planning to be by the bar enjoying the action. Actually, there didn't seem to be much going on at night (other than the music). There didn't seem to be very many people staying at the "resort", perhaps due to the construction. We have stayed at the Plaza Resort, and the daily activities and amenities were much better there. However, they, too, are still undergoing renovation.
Bottom line: I would consider staying here again simply because of the beautiful beach and the dive shop. I have hopes that this will be a nice place very soon.
Wannadive is awesome - absolutely no complaints. We did not partake of the food or drinks offered at the beach bar/restaurant.
Close to ocean for the beautiful view, but know that you'll be listening to bar music until midn...
