“Texas Dive Club Trip to Sand Dollar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2011

We had a large group of 23 divers that stayed in many condos. I flew in 2 days ahead of the others and stayed in a small condo at first. It was clean, comfortable and I loved the screened in porch looking out to the water! Once the others arrived I moved into a 3 bedroom condo with my fiance` and 2 other couples. That condo was awesome! It was clean and had a wrap around, screened in porch overlooking the water! It was the hang out condo for most of the others as well! The service staff was friendly and helpful and kept us in clean towels!
The diving was spectacular and the dive staff treated us all like friends. I didn't like the amount of people they put on each boat though. Many times we couldn't hardly move and get into our gear until someone went into the water!
The Sunset restaurant had mediocre food and horrible wait staff that took over 30 minutes to get our tab correct! Definitely NOT worth the time to eat there! Very overpriced for the service and food!
Have breakfast every morning at Eddy's! Mrs. Sonja and her husband were warm, friendly and very enjoyable! The food was good and the price reasonable!

We booked a condo at Sand Dollar thru an owner on a vacation rental website.
The condo was filthy. It smelled of urine. When we complained, the property manager put us in another condo for 2 days while the other was "cleaned" (no one was working on Christmas or the day after, hence the delay).
When we returned to the condo, it smelled of mildew (not an improvement) and they tried to turn off an air conditioner that we paid to keep on! Had to call the owner in NJ to settle the discrepancy. We slept on top of travel blankets & pillows, as the linens were poorly kept. We even sat on beach towels when on the couch.
Please, I beg you, read this review, flag it as helpful & stay somewhere else! You'll thank me later :-)

after staying at the Divi Flamingo the week before the Sand Dollar was a major improvement in room comfort. In fact, the condo was nicer than any of my apartments when I was in college. It was very comfortable with the only exception being the bed, The bed was two single beds pushed together with kind covers so if you like to cuddle with your wife forget it unless you like laying on the seems. The landscaping needed a lot of work and some of the water entry points were destroyed. This could be a diamond in the rough with a couple good investors to give it a make over. The dive operation was ran my Americans which was a nice break

This was our second visit to the Sand Dollar. We stayed in a studio condo that had everything we needed from a well equipped kitchen to AC, wireless internet, and a comfy bed. The housekeeping staff (Jois and Rosa) were exceptional and very accommodating. They did our dishes when our dishwasher went down for a night, kept us in clean towels and even got the room ready bright and early after our Continental flight arrived at 4:30 am (Ughh).

While the condo is very comfortable, for us, as scuba divers, the highlight is the exceptional Bari Reef located immediately in front of the Sand Dollar. It is one of the best shore dives on the island. The dock makes it easy to get in and out. The reef balls are fun to snorkle and are lively with evening marine life. Check them out.

I only wish that they had some gas BBQ's located around the premises. The charcoal grills are ok, but difficult to light when windy.

We'll be back.

Room Tip: Ask for ascreened porch to protect from mozzies.

Sand Dollar is a fantastic condo resort. I would like to address a few of the misconceptions stated by others before. the pool.. its by the tennis court and located by eddys bar and grill on the property, the grills they are in the back by the wall at the shore line, the donkey poop, well its what donkeys and other wildlife in tropical locales as well as any locale around the world do. if it offended you why didnt you call house keeping. To many of us naturalist its part of the natural scenery, along with the many vibrant colored birds and lizards and all kinds of wildlife that added to the pleasure of the stay, many of them used to and friendly to humans. As for the heat, its the tropics get over it. Bonaire like many places around the world is in a state of economic recovery due to natural and man made disasters, and the fact that they can provide aminities such as air conditioning and internet is a feat of occomplishment many of us take for granted. their power and water resources are to be commended in such an environment.
Most of the rooms are ocean front view, unlike many other resorts, the staff was johnny on the spot when it came to repairing or providing service, and the people were very friendly without being pushy. I loved the fact that any one I met on the street or on the property always looked us in the eye and gave us a cheerful "hello". Is Sand Dollar the Ritz Carlton? No, but come to think of it I didn't see a Ritz Carlton on the island, what i did see was a harmonious blend of man and nature and a proud island protective of their natural beauty, wondorous dive sites, skilled professionals, and committed naturalist in every person I met. And the food, oh the flavors and variety was magnificent, both on the property and off. I can honestly say I didn't have a bad meal the whole time I was there. I enjoyed the local fairs of goat stew, cevitche, yucca fries, and many others. We went about the town and after a couple days felt we could navigate the island almost as good as the locals, it was that easy.
The dive shop "Bonaire dive and Adventure" was the best. they were helpful, curtious, personable, and extremely skilled and knowledgable. Annie, Travis, Sandy, and Jordy we love you all, thank you. EAT MORE LION FISH!!
Bon aire is a divers paradise, and if you dont dive why go? And Sand Dollar purched above Bari Reef is a jewel, for over all ease of access both in and out, the quality and quantity of sea life I would rate Bari Reef one of the best dive sites on Bonaire, in the Carribean, and on the planet, something for divers of all levels.
In closing, if you can't have a good time in Bonaire and you dont like the natural environment of the tropics, and you don't appreciate the beauty of nature, then don't come to our little slice of heaven. But for pete's sake don't trash talk it either, go to your all-inclusive, hair braiding, over whelming, anti-natural, man made world of room service and plastic, sterile mechanically pushed air. and enjoy. I know I'll enjoy returning to the natural splendor of Bonaire and other places like it around the world. Bonaire, Sand Dollar, Bonaire Dive and Adventure, Sunset Cafe, and all the other wonderful sites and people of Bonaire, God bless and we love you, thank you for an experience I will never forget.

We stayed here 2 years earlier in a different unit and it was OK. This time it was just bad. No only no ac in the living area, louvred door prevented you from bring ac out from the bedrooms at all. It was sweltering. Furniture was tacky and I needed to throw sheets over the couch and chairs to sit on them. Yuch! Patio was great,, with new furniture. The grounds are rough and rustic, nothing new. Goats out the back door in herds. Pool just fair,no view but I knew that. Food at the pool bar for lunch was decent, servers did try, which is something on Bonaire -thank you!.....on the other hand dinner at the main on-site restaurant was a forever adventure, we were all eaten by misquitos and just sat and sat waiting to be served. (Did I really try this a second time? Yes... repeat act.) We chose to do our shore diving with Buddy next door which worked out well, we needed to include a cert which we could not do in house due to timing. Internet worked pretty well this year, much better than previous, which is huge for someone on a working vacation. Props to Sand Dollar for that. I would definitely go back to Bonaire, diving is great, would not stay at Sand Dollar unless improvements were made across the board.

Just arrived home from a week at Sand Dollar Condos on Bonaire. We did the drive dive option as 3/4 of us are divers. It was great! Sand Dollar handled booking the truck and the diving - so easy. The unit (E-7) served our purposes well, particularly the well stocked kitchen. We ate in for the main part & BBQed a couple of nights. It's hardly what you'd call luxury - but totally met our expectations and we would return in a heart beat.... if only we had the time! We enjoyed the little beach at the end of the day - the perfect spot to sit with a cocktail and watch the sun go down.... Ahh!!
