We stayed at the DIVI 4/6-4/15, two studio rooms, moldy, but easily solved by opening the windows during the day and turning on the AC at night. Very easy walk to town with "gate key" decent drinks, excellent dinners at chibi chibi. The diving was great. loved Karon. I agree that this is not a 5 star, but we had a nice stay and no major complaints and actually would return and stay here again.

Just got back from a great week in Bonaire, go at aleast once a year, and stayed at the Divi resort with an all inclusive package. I had stayed at the Plaza in the past and wanted to try something new but I have now learned my lesson. When I booked, I made it clear that I wanted a second floor king (I am 6'5" and I had read in other reviews that they had problems with the oceanfront lower level rooms and the smell) and they said it would no problem but when I arrived, they had crossed out a 2nd floor room on my check in paperwork and the all inclusive coupons and indicated a below level room. Aparently a group came in and to placate someone in that group, my room was changed at the last minute. ended up with a very bad moldy smelling room with few of the things they advertised such as a mini fridge. After a number of trips to the front desk, they did supply one a few days later. Also, there was some confusion about the all inclusive. tried to go to dinner the night we arrived with the coupons and was given the run around for about 2 hours. Food in the rest. was good, so was the service. Divi is building another resort on Bonaire that is geared for families and maybe that is why they are letting this one run down some. As far as the diving with Divi, I have not dove with any better divemasters that Looty and Orlando, they are amazing at what they find and very personable BUT, watch out for Serge, the dive shop manager. Very rude and condescending like it is our privlige to dive at HIS operation. charged me for things we did not do and would not remove the charges even when he acknowledged a mistake. Except for diving Klein, don't bother with the boats, rent a car. All inclusive is Ok but save your money, rent a car to dive and to enjoy the many great rest. in town.

My Travel Agent made a mistake on our reservations. Divi personnel extended every courtesy available to straighten out the mess my Agent made. We arrived in the middle of the night. Divi put us in separate rooms and told us we could straighten things out in the morning!!!!! All the personnel went out of their way to make our vacation fabulous. Food and diving were great. Thank You Divi .

Spent a delightful week at the Divi, diving and snorkeling as much as humanly possible. Bonaire has the most convenient diving aside from a live-aboard, which is great because there's not a lot to get excited about other than the diving.

The reviews of the resort are fair.We had a beach-front unit that had been recently updated, and it was clean and large. But the grounds show many signs of being just worn out. It's an older poorly designed resort that's falling apart here and there. But the pools are clean and in good shape. The staff are mostly cordial, probably more so than the preponderance of Dutch guests.

We ate the breakfast buffet every day because it was a good bargain. We dived with Divi Dive and found them to be competent, but not overly frendly. We did some shore diving using their cache of tanks in the parking lot. We used their diving equipment, and it wasn't the best.

I was surprised to see 2 cruise ships show up in 2 days. Then the cruisers show up for their "shore excursion" at the Divi or the Plaza. They just take over the beach and all the lounge chairs, and if you're a paying guest, well good luck. Just as well we weren't using the beach ourselves.

It's an easy walk into town, especially if you give them a deposit and get a gate key, that lets you avoid walking on the busy road into town. We especially liked Casablance with its Argentine beef (along with rice and 2!! kinds of potatoes) and It Rains Fish. At Sunday dinner at Donna & Luigi ( just outside the Divi gate) we were seated for dinner and 6 older men showed up, took a table, and played local music for a few beers. The waitress said that's how they spend their retirement.

I just returned from my first vacation to Bonaire. Dec 5-13, 2006.
The Divi resort is located in a great location, only a 5-6 min walk to town. There is a gate at the end of the property that you need a key to access, but makes the walk a lot shorter. No one at the resort told us about this key, after several days we had to ask to get one.
The rooms are in need of some major renovating and the bathroom was moldy. The bed was one of the most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept on. The cleaning service did not do a very good job either. The refrigerator smelled like rotten fish and the floor had a thin covering of sand all over it. Our room was an oceanfront room and we had a beautiful view of the ocean which was the best part about the whole place.

The snorkeling and diving right out in front of the hotel was nice there are a few sunken life boats which add some unique features to this site. The dive staff was ok. The manager was friendly and helpful. They charge you a service charge just for renting tanks from them, they did not do anything to deserve a tip. Plus everything in the store is a lot more expensive than in town and the service charge gets added to your total bill. We had to carry, load and unload all of our own stuff and tanks but pay the dive shop a 10-15% tip just for being there.
The boat dives were a bit unorganized also, the crew didn't ask anyone on the boat for a suggestion on which site they wanted to dive. Everyone just jumped on the boat and we took off, there was no discussion. In fact I didn't even know which people on the boat were part of the crew. Then we got to the dive site and there was finally a short brief and then everyone jumped off the boat. I was also surprised because they make such a big deal about doing an orientation dive and paying a marine park fee but the dive master didn't say anything when several divers were banging into coral and sponges while trying to take pictures.
I would recommend that you rent a truck and go to the cheapest place to get your unlimited tank rentals. You have to load and unload them all yourself anyway. It was really nice to be able to dive at your own pace and at the sites that you wanted to dive on.
Diving from the dock at the resort was very convenient especially for night dives. They have lockers at the end of the dock for all of your gear and rinse tanks.

The resort staff at the front desk was rude and could have cared less about the guests. They acted bothered every time I tried to get a new beach towel or ask the front desk a question. Most of the time they would ignore me for a couple minutes to see if I would go away.

The food at the Chibi Chibi was great. It was one of the best restaurants on the island. The wait staff at the restaurant was very nice and helpful. It was more expensive though. The breakfast buffet was ok. The food was decent. I recommend Casablanca and Capriccio also (in town). They both had excellent and reasonably priced food. Casablanca had the best service we had on the island.

This resort itself was nice. If you’re not a diver, I would say that this place is the best place to stay on the island because there are other things to do (pools, casino, small beach, spa, etc). If all you want to do is dive and relax there are better hotels.

I would never stay at this hotel again. There are several other hotels on the island that are priced fairly close to the Divi and are not in the same state of disrepair.
