“Donkeys do it again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

Once again the Donkeys went to the lovely island of Bonaire. We always stay at Divi Resort. It is wonderful to see our old friends and make new ones every year. This year we meet the new property manager Hetty van den. Hetty has the place looking wonderful. She has made some subtle changes that really have made the flow of our trip better. Divi resort has made a large investment in a new boat. It is a great ride. But all of the improvements will not ever change what we go there for, the people. Surge’s dive operation is by far the best on the island. Our top shelf boat captain and dive master Maxx and new dive master Andew. He really has the special touch to make every dive fun. I cant finish a review of the resort without thanking our state side contact Bonnie Hanley, She always makes the process of getting the Donkeys booked fun and easy. That is a tough job. Thanks to all of the staff, we will see you in Oct

Stayed at Divi on a last minute time share trade.
Had a problem at check-in (fault of Divi headquarters, not the resort). Resort did a decent job resolving it. Front desk was efficient and friendly
Unit was decent size: sitting area, bedroom, kitchenette, small batbroom with shower, and screened in porch. The shower pressure was mediocre. The free wifi was inconsistent - very good to very poor. The unit was old and dated - in serious need of refurbishing.
Resort has a nice setting and location. Tropical with 2 swimming pools. It is on the water, but no sand beach. There are a few wide piers with lounge chairs and tables. Steps on the side of the piers make easy access to the calm water for swimming or snorkling.
The location is great. Walking distamce to town with shops and restaurants. It is very close to a small limited and "nasty" grocery store.
There are restaurants, a casino and dive shop on premises.
With refurbished rooms definitely in the 4 to 5 star category.

Dear RScharfer9,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay on Trip Advisor. We appreciate your comments and are glad you enjoyed so many aspects of your stay. We are currently using a preventative maintenance program and have special key projects planned for low season to update and renovate our rooms. Please also know that we were having some issues with our WIFI system during the timeperiod of your stay, however those issues have been resolved with our internet provider and we have been enjoying trouble free internet ever since.

Thank you for your staying with us. We hope for the opportunity to welcome you again in the future.

There aren't many resorts on Bonaire, and my husband and I went to the island for diving. Divi is great for diving because they have a fully-outfitted dive shop and a good house reef. The dive shop has everything you need for diving, including the dive lockers on the pier, as well as tanks ready to go when you need them. The house reef is good for night diving, as you can see a lot there with little current, and it's easy to navigate back to the dock. The staff at the dive resort is knowledgeable, helpful and thorough. We did a few boat dives with Divi, and the staff provided good briefings and expert guides.

On our first night, we stayed in the rooms by the pool, and the rest of the week, we stayed in the timeshare units. I cannot stress enough how important it is to get the timeshare units. The pool room stank of mold, the bathroom was sad and depressing and the rooms don't get that much light. The timeshare units have a kitchenette, a remodeled bathroom with a glass shower and multiple jets, as well as a sitting area and a screened in porch. It was a night and day difference. But don't get me wrong, there were parts of our room that were worn and could use a deep cleaning, but compared to the pool rooms, we were much happier.

It is true the property is a bit outdated, but given that you're going to a small island known for diving and not luxury accommodations, it was a satisfactory stay. And really, do you want to spend your vacation in your room? I don't think so! One other great thing about divi is the location - it's a short walk into town and very near the great restaurants along the coast.

I did not think the restaurant Chibi Chibi was worth the price nor was the food that great - it was edible and fine. The food at the bar is okay, the best thing is the burger. I'd honestly recommend going to the grocery store to get your own drinks and snacks and then dining out at some of the great restaurants on the island (at sea, Cappriccio and It Rains Fishes).

The desk staff was very pleasant and helpful. I will say the ground staff could be friendlier, and maybe everyone other than the desk staff could be friendlier. I also think the woman bar tender, for some reason, just didn't like me. She wasn't friendly, everyone else's waters got limes and straws, mine didn't, and during the 2 for 1 happy hour, I only got 1! And it's not fun to be on vacation thinking the bar tender doesn't want to give you good service! The gentleman bar tender was very nice and attentive.

The Hertz location at the resort is convenient, but the staff there wasn't friendly.

I think Divi is a great place for people who plan to spend most of their time outdoors, maybe SCUBA diving, exploring the islands restaurants and just want a convenient place to go back to when they need a rest. The rooms have flat screen TVs that connect to US networks, so when you just need to catch up on How I met your mother, you can.

Room Tip: Make sure you get the timeshare units!

Dear AllisonFT,

Thank you for posting your experience at Divi on Trip Advisor. We appreciate both your positive and negative feedback as both help us to do better. We are in the process of hiring new staff and have new mangers on board to help us to perform better preventative maintenance and cleaning of the hotel rooms and TimeShare units. As I mentioned in previous responses, we are rolling out new restaurant menus and have a new Executive Chef at Divi Resorts to help us to improve our overall food and beverage experience.

We hope for the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and are happy to arrange a TimeShare unit for you for your entire stay.

Thank you again and we hope to see you again soon.

The best feature of the Divi is the location, just two blocks from the downtown shops and restaurants.
The property is old, tired and shows a lot of wear...most of the guests don't mind because they are only there to dive. The rooms are clean and comfortable but zero amenities.
The resort gets really crowded with no room or chairs on the pier for sunning as the hotel allows the cruise ship travelers to use those facilities for a $10 fee and they will take over the property. The cruise ships dock about a block away, they show up early and leave late!
The dive shop is a mixed bag, some of the staff and dive masters seem to be genuinely happy to see you and to be helpful while others are obviously just bored and tolerant of the diver guests.
The food is pretty bland, especially breakfast...very greasy bacon, dry potatoes steaming in a buffet line, and even though the omelettes were made to order, they just couldn't create any flavor. The coffee is good, and there is plenty of fresh fruit.
As for the diving, the boats are old, be prepared for 20 divers per boat and only one dive master in the water...several of the dive masters will be among the first ones back in the boat. This dive resort is geared up for handling large numbers of divers, running as many as 6 boats per day.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same floor plan. Only 10% of the rooms have King sized beds. Your room will ei...

I stayed at Divi for 10 days of diving. I was very impressed with the amenities and excellent dive shop at the resort. Check in was a breeze, the rooms were very spacious and clean and the airconditioning will freeze you out on those scorcher days. A+ facility with A++ dive shop. The diving was amazing and very easy even for beginners. The lockers are very convenient as is the ease of shore diving which was out of this world. Try a night dive on the house reef, you will be blown away. Or even a night dive on the salt pier. The explosion of colors and masses of marine life will send your mind into overload. The town is a comfortable 5 minute walk from the resort with multitudes of shopping and dining choices. This island has many choices for activities from the great night life of
clubbing to the shore diving spots in the park, wild burros and goats, to the colorful flamingos. 10 days just wasn't enough time on this beautiful island and magnificent resort. The staff was very friendly and food was 5 star. I can't say enough good about my visit there.

My wife and I will be making our 5th trip to Divi Flamingo in April 2014. We love it !!!! We have been to a number of Caribbean Islands and stayed at different resorts and hotels. Some were very nice and some not so much. The Divi meets all our expectations for a dive resort. It is not the newest or most modern but gives us a feeling of the old Caribbean. We have had issues with the service on our first couple of trips but the new management has certainly made great improvements. The rooms are nicer and the staff far more attentive. The maintenance staff responds to our requests on island time, no problem for us. We are on island time as well !!!
Nothing but good things to say about the dive shop and staff. Best anywhere.
Thanks Serge, Alvin and staff.
The restaurants are very good. We have enjoyed many good meals looking out at the ocean and watching the reef fish swimming below.
Thanks restaurant staff.
Thank you Ms Hetty, Ms.Melissa, and staff for making this our favorite dive destination. Keep up the good work but don't make to many changes. We love it just the way it is.

ps. please bring back the Iguanas , we miss them.

Room Tip: Don't get the first floor ocean front room that's the one we want !!!

This was literally the worst resort I have ever visited. We first were told we could not check into our room until HOURS after the hotels check in time, then were given a room that smelled so strong of paint that it made you dizzy. The safe in the room was locked and no one could be bothered to come open it. Next, the fire alarm went off in our room for 3 days straight, the phone rang every hour until we unplugged it (meaning no one in our group could contact us), and the person sent to attend to the fire alarm pulled the battery out and left, never to return. The food was terrible and had absolutely no variety, and the service was non-existent. The only good thing about this "resort", if you can call it one, was the dive shop. Totally not worth the headache of ever going here again. I sincerely hope they get new management. I sent these concerns to the Divi corporation and have received one generic email stating they would follow up in 7 days and it's been MONTHS.
