“Fantastic diving - great overall hotel - excellent serivce.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

We just did a reunion with immediate family from all over the world - and the Divi Flamingo was great for that! We were there for the scuba diving (and fantastic snorkeling for the non-divers) and the opportunity for our family being together. What we liked is that everything was just easy to do, easy to get to, and easy to have! The diving facilities and instructors were EXCELLENT and ever so convenient. If you are going for certification -- they are PADI certified. 4 of our family became brand new certified divers while we were there. The diving staff 'know their stuff', are accommodating, patient, and very friendly. The resort facilities overall are great. Since we were coming there from out of the country, we wanted something with a local flavor and this place 'fit the bill'. The look and feel of the place is a bit 'funky' but very fun and felt very Caribbean -- note: we were not looking for the Marriott or Hyatt type of experience. The rooms were fine - we were right on the water which made for a very relaxing sleep after a long day of diving. We did most of our meals there and found the food to be very satisfactory. The spa was a bit small, but it had a "very local feel", and it offered full service - Massages were wonderful! Location is very convenient to town - great restaurants in walking distance. During the time we were there - it seemed like there were mostly Dutch guests, which to me added to its charm. This was our 2nd time there -- would strongly recommend this as an overall great experience - that fits very well around an excellent diving vacation!

This review is strictly for the Divi Dive Bonaire diving outfitter. We were recommended to Divi Dive by a family member would had dived with them before and Im glad she did, otherwise we would've used one of the large outfitters. The process of the orientation and acquiring rental gear was easy. My sister and I did a refresher course with Laurel that made us feel confident again in the gear and in the water. They have an uncomplicated system for signing up for dive boats and the lockers are the docks are convenient. The wash tanks are right there when you get off the boat, soooo easy! The calabas reef (or house reef) of the dock is great for a quick afternoon or night dive. The boats are comfortable and the crew is fantastic. We had Max and Luis for all our morning dives and the were wonderful dive masters and guides. They knew where the cool stuff was and took us to some great locations, based on the weather. The made our dive trip! The boat only had 7 people because many people fly on Fridays so if you can fly on Saturday or Sunday take advantage of the empty boats! We will be using Divi Dive on our next Bonaire trip and would recommend to friends and family.

We stayed in apartment part of resort which has a much better swimming pool area. The whole place was average but the location great and for that reason we decided to stay here rather than hiring a bigger house.

The kitchen is small but has everything. We had 2 double beds and a sofa-bed all in the one big open room. Room could do with renovation but was okay. Outside was great as have a little pier with great access to sea and some impressive snorkling.

Stayed at the Divi Flamingo Resort as part of a group diving trip.

Dive operations were great. We were mostly organized on our own boat each day (our group was 20-24 people). Boats were in great shape, and the lockers right on the dock were so convenient - no lugging gear around. The house reef was great for a warm up and for some night dives, and during the day the boat crews took us to various reefs up and down the coast.

The dive crews were great as well, giving a good orientation to each site, and tips on where to find some special residents (e.g. seahorses, etc.).

The hotel overall was good. Rooms were in reasonable shape, clean, etc. You really don't need much when you are diving all day, and just need a clean place to crash, and these rooms fit the bill. Nothing special though, so manage your expectations.

Restaurants were okay. We had the breakfast buffet included in our package, which provided the standard fare (omlette/pancake station, bacon, sausages, etc.). This was probably worth buying as a meal package (if just for the convenience each day), but would not recommend the lunch or dinner packages. For lunch, the package is $23.66; we ate in the restaurant most days for lunch, and the bill was never over $20.

For dinner, there are some great restaurants within walking distance of the hotel (or in town), so really don't think the $42.17 package is worthwhile at all, especially since you'll probably want to eat in town at least a couple of nights for variety.

So overall, I would recommend staying for the diving - the location is great, facilities for diving are great, etc. If you're not diving, there are probably higher end places you can stay at.

I didn't stay at Divi Famingo Beach Resort, but I did two days of boat diving with Divi. I received excellent service and attention from Serge De Groote and his Divi Dive team. If you're looking for a good dive operation, I highly recommend Divi Dive Bonaire.

Divi has amazing diving. The house reef is gorgeous and our room was literally right next to the dive shop and diving dock. Our boat dives were also incredible and very well run. Our guides Astrid and Roffino were so knowledgeable and lead us on some amazing dives! Very professional and great staff all around.
Our room was very nice, no complaints. We only had one problem when we accidently bolted the front door then went out the back (patio) to which we didn't have a key and we got locked out and almost missed our dive briefing. It was very difficult to get the staff to help us. Somehow it seemed like this had never happened before... and for some reason there was no key to our patio area either.
The restaurant was ok, a little pricey, but it is a resort. Breakfast was pretty good. Great lady making ommletes and pancakes. The pool is nice and the casino is small but fun (drink for free while you are playing is nice ;)) They had some good theme nights and happy hours at the bar that were very worth while as well. Decent location, although it's such a small island, easy to walk into "downtown, though.
Overall it was really a perfect week with my amazing dive family at a great resort, Thanks Divi!

This was my 5th time to Bonaire and it will certainly not be my last. If you are going to Bonaire for the pristine and white beaches, then you will most likely be disappointed. Although the shoreline is clean and grand, this is not a place to lay on the sand and get your tan. This is a time for DIVING. And the best place to learn and expand your dive experience on Bonaire is with the Divi Dive team that is associated with the Divi Flamingo Beach Resort and Casino. Serge and his team are the most friendly, professional and accommodating team that I have dived with yet, and I have been diving for over ten(10) years. They keep their boats maintained well, make sure that all elements for safety are available, take precaution before you step into the boat, step out of the boat to dive, and come back into the boat from your dive. I took the time to stand back and watch how they operated, this go around, and was amazed how they treated everyone with respect and as an individual yet were able to move a large number of people using eight boats to get them in the boat and off to their diving destinations (this was during the US Thanksgiving holiday week, which is a particularly busy time at the island). Serge has done an excellent job bringing in a top notch crew. My wife learned to dive and received her open water there. The instructor was patient and very creative in making sure she was comfortable in the water. After the class was finished and my wife dove with the rest of us, I could see a marked difference in her diving. I attribute this to the quality of the instruction. If you are looking for a place to dive and you are looking for a top notch place to learn, advance or just plain dive - get to the Divi. If you are looking for a place to relax on the beach, enjoy Mai Tai's, get a sun tan and watch the day go by - then Bonaire is most likely not the place for you. It is a DIVERS paradise.
