“Sound of the surf”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

Excellent clean spacious room with self catering facilities, right on the seafront, you are lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves. .Tame sparrows share your breakfast table. The beautiful beach is never crowded and the sun loungers around the pool are very comfortable. Don't expect gourmet food here, the catering is very low key, but for good food try restaurants Naha and Tapas down the road.A great base from which to hire a car and see Barbados in all its glory. The East coast is a paradise with spectacular views.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Coral Sands for about a week over Christmas 2011 and absolutely loved this place! Most importantly - it is located on a quite and beautiful beach, which remained not crowded even during the peak Christmas season (some of the other Barbados beaches felt rather like South of France in August....). Still very close to St. Lawrence Gap with many restaurants, bars and clubs. The hotel itself if beautiful and recently renovated, with all rooms large and with a great ocean view. Good mix of guests of all countries and ages, including a few holidaying couples like us and a couple of families. All rooms have kitchen and fridge which was convenient to keep our own fruit and yoghurt for morning snacks

Room Tip: Try to get a room on one of the top two floors. We stayed in a ground floor room in front of recepti...

We stayed for 2 weeks Oct. 24-Nov. 6, 2012 with our children (6yrs & 13yrs). We all had a great time and couldn't have been happier with the location of Coral Sands; we also had good weather during our stay. The hotel is on the beach (side gate to the public access gives 30 second walk to the beach).

HOTEL: The hotel is a nice, clean hotel with wonderful staff. There are only about 30-rooms or so at this hotel and they ALL face the ocean. We stayed on the 3rd floor, had a view of the ocean, pool, and sunset. (The ground-floor units are at the pool deck area, which would have also worked out well). Our room was equiped with 2-double sized beds, large washroom (shower/toilet in own section off sink-closet areas), air-conditioner, table & dressers, t.v., and the kitchen was well-equiped (sink, stove-top, microwave-convection oven, stand-up fridge with upper freezer, coffee maker, toaster, dishes). It worked very well for us for breakfast & lunches (we chose to eat out for most dinners). The room was always clean.

The staff was always very friendly & helpful. We left all our computer stuff at home (on purpose) but needed to use the hotel-computer to do quick email checks. Staff showed us where & gave a code for the computer (and we were not charged for the use). There are times when Internet may be slow, but it always worked out for us. Other times we would ask staff for suggestions or their knowledge in regards to local places. Troy & a couple of others especially stood out for us as being very personable (everyone was friendly & helpful). Our little one would always ring the bell (at the front desk) multiple times (EVERY time we went near the front lobby area) - she loved that bell! It was annoying (sometimes) but they sure did play along with her. :)

The pool worked out great for us with the kids, especially our little one. We swam and we were at the pool every day.

We met other guests at the hotel. Some had been coming to the same place for the last 8 years, others for the past 15-years (twice a year) (retired couples). PLUS, we met Locals that chose Coral Sands for their "stay-vacation" (stay in Barbados instead of other Countries). There were familes, individual vacationers, business persons, and retired guests, a large type of mix. Everyone was very friendly. OVERALL, Barbados has very friendly people and we never felt unsafe.

The hotel has a nice & tidy little restaurant for breakfast. We ate there twice when we didn't want to make our own meal in our room. It was never busy. The cook is also the server (or was during our experience). The have a menu to choose from for items such as tropical pancakes (bananna, etc. cooked in te pancake), eggs, sausage, bacon, omelettes, juice, coffee, etc.). It was good.

LOCATION: Coral Sands is in Worthing and about a 10-minute walk to the Gap (St. Lawrence Gap). The hotel is set back from the main road (so no road traffic noises) by a small alley-type of road - at the end of this mini-road. There are about 3 different markets for groceries within a 5-minute walk. The closest is a convenient-type store. The other two are larger grocery-type stores. The largest is about a 10-minute walk and has free shuttle service for your return with all your groceries. This was our favorite grocery store as it offered the most selections of items. There is also some shopping (the Duty-free store is near all this area too, by the only nearby traffic light).

There are also restaurants within close walking distance - the closest at the end of the alley-mini-road (3-minute walk) and includes the Chicken Barn and the Lucky Horseshoe. (The Gap has fancier restaurants - one is Pices, excellent food but pricey, will write seperate review, another was the Harlequin - best Caesar salad dressing ever). Restaurants can be very expensive depending on where you go.

We rented a car and parking was sufficient at our hotel. (We also were there during low season). Due to some lack of sidewalks and heat (and for additional shopping/restaurants, etc., we suggest you rent a car to travel Barbados unless you enjoy busses / taxies. We had to carry our little-one a few times when she didn't want to walk so took advantage of a rental car. (We drove the island many times). We rented our car from Chelsea Motors (will right a seperate review there) and strongly suggest a GPS, it worked great!

BEACH: The beach itself has nice fine sand (compared to some of the other beaches that had shells/rocks). The Locals show up at the beach on weekends, which can be a little busier (weekends only). There are coral reefs a little further out but use caution if not a strong swimmer if exploring the reef. However, close to shore is perfect; we had our little one up to waste without issues, stand-by if deeper. We had no worries about safety at the beach during our stay.

(For rating out of 5, there was not fitness center or organized children-activities so please ignore if rated).

We totally understand why people and locals return to this hotel. We would recommend this to anyone. Overall the hotel was quiet & relaxing. Could not have made a better choice!

Room Tip: We had a corner suite. Suspect any room is good based on what we saw. If you want more pool view...

The Coral Sands Resort was close to the Airport which was an excellent start to our stay in Barbados. The room was spacious with a breathtaking panoramic beach view, we can only describe as AMAZING. The room was comfortable with lots of wardrobe space. We would have liked the option of a Kingsize bed rather than two doubles though. The kitchen and the appliances were in good working order...and we were very happy to have Ice cubes ready in the freezer! The balcony furniture was quite basic...however, the view more than makes up for the lack lustre chairs. The room was cleaned daily and the staff were always friendly, although, a little scarce at times (we were offered a complimentary drink...but were unable to take up the offer because the Bar was nearly always closed). All in all, loved our stay at Coral Sands especially the new drapes and cushions!!!

We stayed here in March, 2012 for our 20th anniversary for 1 week. I've been meaning to review this hotel for some time. We began in a room on the first floor. The room was ok, but the outdoor patio was right next to the pool affording no privacy. They told us ahead of time that you could not request a specific room. Eventually, they moved us to a 3rd floor room. The view of the ocean was breathtaking. The room was fine. Nothing luxurious. The kitchen was useful for breakfast and lunch. I ended up loving Barbados, but it takes a little getting used to. We felt really safe walking all over the place and took buses everywhere. However, this hotel is next to a closed up former resort that seems abandoned. It is surrounded by other properties that are immediately adjacent to it. It is not like you are driving up to luxury. While the hotel itself is very very nice, the immediate surroundings are surprisingly run down. However, I would recommend the hotel because of the view from the room. The staff were pretty friendly. All in all, good hotel, good location, just note what I mentioned above.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on one of the top floors

Took spouse and small child (15 months) to Barbaos for the weekend. Nice hotel in good location. There's a small market nearby and a good all hours restaurant directly across the highway. Also some other small eateries. About 10 minute walk to the Gap. Hotel sits right on the beach. We practically had the place to ourselves. Crib was provided and the room was quite nice with a large balcony. Restaurant was ok. Its pricey though. If I remember right, it was wifi in the room for a daily fee ($15 USD daily I think). We ate across the street alot and also bought items from the minimart nearby. Be prepared, because Barbados in general is on the more expensive side. If you're looking for crystal clear blue waters and soft white sand, you've come to the right island. The hotel beach access was great. Can't say enough about how picturesque the beaches are. Nice hotel in a good location not far from the airport (15 mins or so). Would definitely consider going back. Little one had a good time on the beach and in the calm waters. The pool was quite nice too.

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean view, but the higher up you go the better the view.
