“Overnight Before Cruise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

I stayed here the night before a cruise.

Checking into the hotel was a lengthy process and took about half an hour with about three other parties in front.

The room was very good with a big bathroom including a Jacuzzi. There was also a fantastic view of the pool and beach.

I did not eat in the hotel, as it looked fairly expensive and not a very inspired menu. However I used the indoor bar at night and the bar tender was very attentive, friendly and efficient. This was more than could be said of his co worker in the pool bar the following day, who was very slow with very few customers and not that friendly.

We had already had a look around the Accra Beach Hotel last year whilst stopping at the Blue Orchids hotel last year. Having been shown a sea-view room, we had booked one as the views were spectacular.
After a week cruising on the Thompson Dream, we were looking forward to our second week in Barbados at the Accra Beach and arrived at the hotel at around 13.45. Unfortunately our room wasn’t ready and we were asked to wait, we used the time to talk to a few people who were getting ready to leave and they explained that they had enjoyed their stay and the laid back atmosphere at the hotel. We were offered some complimentary drinks and eventually got into our room at around 15.50, this was our only bad experience of the hotel.
Once in the room, we immediately forgot the checking-in issues as the room was spacious, spotless and fresh, and the view of the gorgeous sea and beach were as good if not better than we remembered them being. We had 2 queen size beds, one for me and my wife, and one for our 15 year old daughter, the bathroom was of a good size and again clean, fresh and modern. Wardrobe space was fine and the free safe a bonus, the room’s air-conditioning was good, so all in all more than happy with the room. My daughter was also very happy as the Wi-Fi was free and worked seemingly everywhere, including the beach!!
We were room only, so cannot make a comment on the food personally, but some people we met had took up the 3 day half board package available, and they said the food was good. We knew that there were many eating options very close to the hotel and used these, I would recommend “The Ackee Tree (100 yards to the left on the main road), Double D.Lish and Chilly Moos(Opposite) and the small wooden restaurants set back off the beach by the car park. I love the local food and we had Roti’s, Flying Fish, Fish Cakes and doubles, and the food was all very tasty and sensibly priced.
We went to the Managers cocktail party on the Monday night, it was low key, but a good chance to meet other guests and Hotel Management, the rum punch was also tasty and potent, this only last for an hour however. We also attended the karaoke and saw the show on the BBQ night, both good fun and definitely hassle free. Happy Hour was good value and took advantage of it on a couple of nights.
The pool, gardens and beach were all beautiful, clean and well kept, whilst we were there the sea was quite rough, but there were a number of lifeguards on duty and they ensured that unwary guests weren’t put at risk. The colour of the sea is amazing here, and the sand nearly white, there wasn’t any hassle on the beach either, the occasional person would ask if you wanted a massage, or to buy a bracelet, but some days we didn’t see anyone, again adding to the very laid back, stress free environment.
We all agreed that this was one of the best hotels we had stopped in, and together with the fantastic people, both tourists and locals, that we had met, one of our best holidays ever. We loved the cruise and it’s itinerary, we loved Barbados, it’s fantastic beaches, people and food, and we loved the Accra Beach Hotel for the rooms, the view, the ambience, it’s location, and the fact that as we left we felt that we had experienced everything a good holiday should have, and that we are already looking forward to being back at the Accra Beach Hotel.

Room Tip: Definitely book a sea view room, it's a must.

Beautiful Hotel...beautiful location! The only negative was the inconvenience of the relocated front desk, I arrived later at night and no one was present until a Security Officer appeared and gave some vague directions of where to find the temporary front desk (I would have appreciated it if he would have shown me where to go) - the hotel was undergoing some upgrades while I was there, so I tried to rate it fairly for the overall rating. It could have also used a vending machine - I arrived late and had to leave the property after finally checking in just to get something to drink. However, the place was beautiful...the rooms were neat and clean...the pool was great...and the beach was amazing! The front desk upgrade was complete by the time I left, and was able to check out at the new permanent front desk.

Room Tip: As other travelers have mentioned - do book a room with a sea view, even if it means paying a little...

We stayed at The Accra beach after a weeks caribbean cruise with Thomson, it was our 25th wedding anniversary so I had emailed the hotel in advance just to make sure we had a king bed rather than 2 singles.
I also paid in advance for the sea view room, which is def a must as upgrading while there was much more expensive.
The room was lovely, spacious, clean with amazing views of the pool, gardens and sea. I cried!
The frst night of our stay we had a visit from room service with ice cold bubbly and a gift basket, compliments of the hotel for our Aniversary! I cried again!
The hotel itself is very well laid out, plenty of beds around the pool, garden and beach although I could see it being a problem at busier times of the year, only because there wasnt much room around the pool to put the beds.
The pool bar service was pretty crap to be honest, I agree with alot of the reviews in that respect but it didnt really bother us. We drank there mostly during happy hour (half price drinks!) and it was cheap enough not to be bothered by super slow bar tenders.
The concierge guy who booked our trips was super helpfull and gave us lots of great advise. The reception staff were also great (it really was just the odd surely bar staff that let them down).
Didnt eat there at all so cant comment on the food, it looked bit pricey but ok.
Supermarket accross the road, we had muffins, coffee and juice every morning on our balcony, bliss. (coffee perculator and sachets etc supplied in room).
Theres so many great places near by to eat and drink, the location of this hotel has to be its biggest draw, and the view from our befroom. Check out the Virgin brochure, that room and view was ours!
Barbados was amazing, was our first time and we are going back next April for 2 weeks this time cant wait.
Oistins is a must on the friday, lawrence gap had a large variety of places to eat and drink, both just few mins away in regae bus for just $2 each.
The people are friendly and laid back, maybe sometimes a bit too laid back but well, it was just the best holiday we've ever had.
Do the jolly roger pirate ship, such fun, you get to snorkle with Turtles too. I just watched from top deck as not great swimmer but still had a fab day, the food was great too(and the rum punch !).
I would def reccomend this hotel to friends and clients alike and would like to say thank you very much for making our aniversary so very special

Room Tip: sea view rooms in centre of hotel have best overall views

Had a lovely holiday,at this hotel,in march, and april 2013.The hotel rooms were magnificent, clean, and well appraised. One of the best hotels,i have stayed in for a number of years.I picked the hotel by reading the reviews on this sight, and was not disappointed with my fellow subscribers valuable remarks, and comments. The grounds of the hotel, are well kept, and are occupied by a number of species of tropical birds that have become very tame.I am hoping to visit the hotel again, later this year.

Room Tip: pool view,or ocean view.

Spent 4 days with Family at Accra Beach Hotel. I have stayed here several times. Last time we stayed here we found the service had dropped below our expectations so on our last visit we stayed at another hotel in Barbados. On this short trip we decided to stay at Accra again as we had family from the UK staying there.
We went with low expectations after our last stay here. We were pleasantly surprised at the fantastic turn around they have done. The service is now great, everyone is extremely friendly and willing to serve your needs. The Menu's are new and improved. Of course we never had a problem with the location or facilities of this hotel as it is on one of Barbados's best beaches and walking distance to many restaurants, shopping etc.
Accra has definitely brought some new training to all their staff and the benefits are showing. I will definitely recommend this hotel again to friends and family. Keep up the good work Accra Beach Hotel.

Room Tip: If you are going with a family of 4 or more the two bedroom suites are great. They have a jacuzzi on...

Dear Rob,
I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your recent repeat visit with us. Thank you for affording us that opportunity, acknowledging your concerns from a previous visit.
Your observation on the service is accurate. We continue to focus very much on our service delivery ,and yes, there has been ongoing training as we strive to "get it right".
Your endorsement of our product is greatly appreciated and we look forwad to welcoming you and family back on your next visit to Barbados.

Nicely located on the beach. Clean. Only problem is that the bar closes down fairly early for me. Next door to a public beach with very good inexpensive foods. Small shopping area across the street with several restaurants and a convenience store.
