“Great affordable Barbados vacation”

Peach and Quiet

My husband and I had a great stay at Peach & Quiet. Previously we had only stayed on the west coast of Barbados so Peach & Quiet was a nice change and a chance for us to see more of the island. Peach and Quiet is in a rather "off the beaten track" location on the south end of the island, and most vacationers will likely want to rent a car to feel "connected" to the rest of the island and to be able to enjoy the great restaurants in St. Lawrence Gap. You can easily do taxis or bus as well.

The hotel is very lovely and looks much the same as the photos in this site's photo gallery. It's setting on the crashing waves of the south coast is just perfect. However, if you are a beach person and want to be directly on the beach, you will probably be happier at a resort that offers this. There are two beaches directly on either side of Peach & Quiet, but sometimes need to be accessed by the local road. So it is not the same as being directly on the beach. However the pool is lovely.

The rooms are quite simple as other travellers have mentioned. I would recommend the upper garden rooms as the nicest rooms as they tend to have high ceilings, ceiling fans and are nice and bright. The lower rooms where we stayed tend to be a bit dark and although we were rarely in our room, we wished they were brighter. The lightening was also not great in the lower rooms and it was hard to read at night at all. The lower rooms do not have great patios and no lighting so that frustrated us at night when we wanted to read/enjoy the night. The upper rooms had great balconies and lighting. We also found ourselves hot at night at times in the lower rooms with just one floor fan. When booking be sure you also enquire which rooms have which beds. Our room only had two twin beds, not a double or king.

Meals at Peach & Quiet are a real pleasure on the patio under the stars. The food was very good and so amazingly affordable for Barbados. We recommend you also try the great restaurants in St. Lawrence Gap. Margaret, one of the owners, flawlessly directed us to three wonderful restaurants - Pisces in St. Lawrence Gap and The Restaruant at South Sea which was unvelievably stunning and one of the best meals anywhere in our lives. Round House on the east coast was also excellent.

We loved the honour bar where we enjoyed top notch spirits, rum punch, beer etc. We also loved the comraderie of this informal resort and the chance to meet people from all over the world.

All in all - Peach & Quiet is a great, affordable way to enjoy the expensive island of Barbados - which truly is paradise and one of our favourite Caribbean islands. We also love the west coast for its incredible beaches and scenery and sophistication. It really comes down to what kind of a vacation you wish to have. We felt much more adventurous this time!

Having just returned from our fifth trip, we have come to realize just how addictive Peach and Quiet is. Many of the guests there were also repeat guests and from the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were made to feel special. We hardly wanted to leave the property but enjoyed nice walks along to the neighbouring beaches and swims in the surf. The food was, as usual, outstanding and a tremendous value. We were lucky enough to enjoy three nights of wonderful entertainment at the property. Margaret and Adrian go out of their way to make their guests comfortable and cater to their every need. We will most certainly be looking forward to many more return visits.

We stayed at Peach and Quiet pre and post our Seabourn cruise in December 2007.

We have been guests at Peach and Quiet 4 or 5 times previously. We were delighted to find that very little had changed in terms of the sparkling cleanliness of the property and the rooms, the charming pool and easy walking access to nearby beaches, the high quality, variety and reasonable price of food, the knowledgeable and very hospitable owners, the friendly staff, the convenient honour bar, the beautiful grounds and the spectacular ocean views.

What else do we like about P&Q? We are very happy with the ‘no kids’ policy and the fact that there is no piped music blaring in the public areas. We have spent hours on the turtle viewing platform and in the snorkeling lagoon. Though not ‘pet people’ we liked to see the hotel’s pretty (and friendly) cats drowsing in the sun. We enjoy sitting out on our large balcony, with a cup of tea in the morning. We take our glasses of wine to the seashore benches and stargaze at night. We indulge in the excellent buffet breakfasts. We remain pleased by the high quality linen and towels which are changed frequently, and the environmentally friendly soaps in the room. And the beds are sooo restful.

This year, all the rooms had been freshly painted and the bathrooms, which had been a bit tired, were improved also. There were also some impressive improvements to the grounds – the completion of the little conference centre and a new outdoor sitting room with lots of comfy furniture.

As usual, P&Q’s owners were very helpful in suggesting memorable excursions, and made all the bookings for us. We relied on Ollie, their main taxi driver, to take us wherever we wanted to go. He was efficient, reliable and reasonably priced.

This year, we had a special occasion to celebrate. To our delight, P&Q set us up in their own private dining room for an elegant meal that we and our guests will long remember.

We highly value the aspects of Peach and Quiet that some find problematic – the fact that it’s somewhat out of the way, that the rooms are simple and lack air conditioning, that there are no in-room telephone, TV, internet and related 21st century trappings to undermine the tranquility we seek on holidays.

People have asked us how we can bear to go from the 6 star luxury of the Seabourn cruise line to the 2 diamonds of P&Q. The answer is simple. We find that, in their own ways, P&Q and Seabourn are the ultimate in value for money travel. Each is run by people with a clear vision of the type of establishment they want to have, the clientele they need to support it, what they have to promise to attract and keep that clientele and, even better, how to deliver on their promises. We’ll be back.

“Beautiful & Idyllic as Usual !!!”

Peach and Quiet

We have just returned from our fifth holiday at Peach & Quiet and we are amazed, as ever, at the quality and service we have come to expect and love. As usual, Chris the Chef was as friendly and accommodating as always, even going out of his way to make me special requests. His food is true bajan cuisine and was exceptional. Margaret went out of her way to book all of the new trips and experiences that we hadn't had time to do and make last time and the island is still as lovely as ever. The hotel has come a long way from our first visit and we adored the additional sea/garden lounge where we could relax in the shade. We were pleased to see our favourite friends, two gorgeous cats who take away all our withdrawal symtoms of leaving ours at home !!!! As ever, Peach and Quiet is our home away from home and we cannot thank Margaret enough for being the perfect hostess and treating us as one of the family. We will see you next year, and the year after, and the year after that !!!!!!!

A few reviews have said that Peach and Quiet wouldn't be great for younger travelers (meaning 20s and 30s) and I beg to differ! My boyfriend and I stayed with P&Q for the first 5 days of our trip to Barbados and for the rest of the trip we wished we'd booked our entire stay there.

Both of us arrived right after extremely stressful work weeks and expected to need a few days to unwind - it only took one night. My favorite part about the location was the constant soothing sound of waves crashing on the rocks. Our room was only about 40 feet from the shore so we left our glass door open all night to fall asleep to the sound. The lack of tvs and radios was key as well; when we checked into the Hilton later that week we noticed the NOISE was so irritating compared to P&Q.

P&Q has great nooks to read, sunbathe, or just watch the waves. The pool is perfect for just paddling around, and the swim up bar certainly adds to the fun! Speaking of bars, the self-service bar is great (and cheap) because it allows you to just wander up and pour a second (or third... or fourth) glass of rum punch.

The owners were fantastic, helping us arrange rentals, trips, etc. Definitely ask them to help you get a rental car; it's expensive at $50 a day but well-worth it. We saw so much of the island on the two days we rented, it worked out great.

To sum up P&Q in one word - perfect. I would be so disappointed if anything changed before we visit next year!:)
